Zombicide: The Boys comes to the board game

Zombicide gets new content: CMON plans expansions with the The Boys series license. The Amazon Studios successful format, which is based on the comic of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, is scheduled to enter its fourth round this year, at least as far as the start of shooting is concerned. Board game fans can slip into the roles of The Seven or The Boys.

CMON is planning two expansion packs for the Amazon series The Boys – one for each side. Players will be able to take on the roles of the boys - these are Billy Butcher, Hughie, Annie Kimiko, Frenchie, Mother's Milk and Terror the Bulldog - or play the superheroes themselves: Homelander, Queen Maeve, The Deep, Black Noir, Starlight, A- Train and Solider Boy. However, fans of Zombide or the successful series have to be patient. CMON states that it intends to launch the character packs in April 2023. The price: around 60 US dollars.

Heroes like they shouldn't be

The series The Boys by Amazon Studios also draws its success from its slightly crazy approach. Instead of classic superhero action, two parties face each other: the heroes and the hero hunters. In between, there's pretty much everything parents shouldn't let their kids see, from silly jokes to splatter. Nevertheless: it is the style and approach of the comic idea in particular that make it so fascinating. The series debuted in 2019 and has not yet been told. Recently, leading actor Karl Urban (Billy Butcher) stated that the fourth season of The Boys should be shot later this year.

That CMON of all things used Zombicide as the basis for the The Boys Content uses is hardly surprising. This time the publisher shows a good instinct, because the board game basis with its uncomplicated skirmishes fits perfectly with the entertaining action interludes that fans know from the series template. Being able to act with the heroes and hunters known from TV and comics should be reason enough for fans of The Boys to buy it.

Of course, the characters are also implemented accordingly. They each have unique abilities, including an ultimate skill that delivers extra devastation. However, in the board game version of The Boys, both The Seven, the heroes of the Vought Corporation, and the Hero Hunters battle hordes of zombies. So CMON stays true to the basic concept of the board game. Zombicide in the second version is a board game for up to six players - optional solo mode. They face off against hordes of zombies together, using equipment and their skills to finish off the creatures. As players defeat undead, they can gradually level up their characters.

Because the thematic extension would hardly be possible without the skirmishes known from the series, CMON is working on it with a mini-extension, the Supe Subscriptions package. It thus adds rules that turn the characters of The Seven expansion into abominations that players then have to fight back. CMON is co-publishing The Boys packs with Guillotine Games.

Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Anthony Starr and Erin Moriarty, among others, play in the Amazon series adaptation. The format is currently in its third season on Amazon Prime.
