The release of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 for Nintendo Switch? Still uncertain. Only Nintendo itself knows when the successor to the bestseller will appear. It has long been known that Nintendo is working on continuing the adventure. The Japanese company had already surprisingly announced the game as part of a direct show at E3 2019. According to rumors, the release should take place at the end of 2020. There are now new rumors that Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is scheduled to be released in 2021.

Even leakers disagree about when Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 will be released for Nintendo Switch, or better: could appear. Any information about the release date for the successor to the action-adventure game is speculative. Official information from Nintendo is not yet available. Apart from a short teaser at E3 2019, there is hardly any information outside of the community rumor mill.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 - Probably another enduring project

The thought of a release of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 at the end of 2020 is tempting. But how realistic is the assessment actually? Apart from a brief, but at least surprising, announcement in a direct show at E3 last year, Nintendo has not published any further information about the game, let alone a development status.

For comparison: the developers worked on the first part for around six years. It will probably not take that long before the successor appears. The E3 teaser already shows that Nintendo will rely on the graphics framework of the first part for Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. The sequel is at least visually based on its predecessor - and in terms of play, the basic structure should at least serve as a functioning template. Both could significantly shorten the development time; Whether that will be enough to cut it in half remains questionable.

The company is silent on how far Nintendo is with the development process of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. Official information can probably only be expected when the project turns onto the "home straight".

Nothing is known about the story either, but the teaser at least suggests a dark setting. Because Nintendo is apparently in no hurry with the development, fans can rightly assume that a large part of the development time could be spent on working out the background story and staging - and that is, despite the test of patience, good prospects.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2: Leak gives "info" about the story

A recently opened on the Reddit platform supposed leak the round about the backstory of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. Accordingly, the story should be linked directly to the prequel. Rumor has it that Ganondorf is not the threat to the kingdom of Hyrule that Zelda and Link are trying to rebuild. Flashback sequences are intended to transport players back to the time of the younger Link - playable scenes included.

Of course, none of this is official; they are rumors. After all, fans can spend the time leading up to the release of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 with exciting speculations. If Nintendo continues to pursue a similar strategy in the future, as it did when it was announced at E3 2019, official information could come as a surprise again, perhaps even earlier than it has arrived - Nintendo fans can at least hope for that.

If you believe the current rumors about the release of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, a release is not expected before 2021. In any case, Twitter user "Sabi" claims to have learned this from an "extremely serious source". Electronics giant Media Markt is already listing Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 in the online shop: without a cover, but with a release date – on December 31, 2020. However, this will probably be a “placeholder date”.

The much more exciting information from the rumor, however, concerns a large franchise that fans would not expect to be released - just in time for Christmas. Of course, these are only rumors, there is no official information from Nintendo.
