Is World of Warcraft: Dragonflight worth it? This question is probably on the mind of at least doubting fans shortly before the release. Is it even possible to give an answer to that? Yes, you can - and it is clearly not possible. The ninth add-on is not only worthwhile, it is a must for real fans.
Even before the official release of what is now the ninth expansion for World of Warcraft, it's clear that true fans of the MMORPG have to be there. Anyone who, in view of the pictures and information, still doubts that Dragonflight heralds a completely new era of the now aging classic, let me tell you: World of Warcraft has never been better than it is now!
Dragonflight: A required expansion
When World of Warcraft was first launched in 2004, it was not foreseeable how much the online role-playing game would shape the games scene. To this day, millions of players are active worldwide, experiencing adventures in Azeroth and countless other worlds that Blizzard has expanded the virtual adventure playground with over the years.
For players, their personal WoW career probably consisted of many ups and downs. Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King were highlights, Legion and Battle for Azeroth the opposite – at least not a few die-hard fans see it that way. How well you find the content of an extension ultimately depends on personal taste. Mists of Pandaria didn't do well with the crowd, but I love the add-on about the cute pandaren with their living environment based on ancient China.
Over the years, the developers have revised the game several times, gradually making it more beginner-friendly, and sometimes easier, despite all the criticism. And yet, with the release of a new expansion, millions of fans continue to plunge into new adventures - and this will be the case with Dragonflight as well. If you had to predict it, the ninth expansion should sell even better than Shadowlands given the early praise on day one. With around 3,7 million copies sold in the first 24 hours, it was the fastest-selling PC game of all time.
With Dragonflight, Blizzard is turning the game upside down again, this time drastically. That, however, is well received: revisions to the profession system, talent trees with situationally sensible options, a new class, a new people, a new story with old friends, new raids and instances, changes to the equipment system - the list of features in World of Warcraft : Dragonflight is long. The countless customization options for the Dracthyr in the character creation menu alone commands respect from the developers: it has never been so much fun to tinker a hero. Due to the many options, the character even looks a lot more unique than it ever was.
Lots of stories
Blizzard has also worked on the basic gaming experience. As with Shadowlands, side quests have meaning and tell good stories, the faction system has been streamlined and made more accessible. Crafters can now indulge in their hobby as a real occupation and earn a reputation as a good craftsman. And the interviews with the developers show that they apparently have enough new content up their sleeves for the time after the campaign.
Blizzard is often said to be wrong, but this time the developers have learned from many of their previous mistakes. World of Warcraft: Dragonflight does one thing above all: fun!
Dragonflight offers options, no longer annoys players with forced content. This is particularly noticeable in the fame system. You can now work on construction sites at the same time instead of having to split up the farming. Such decisions benefit the different types of players in particular. With Dragonflight you can enjoy World of Warcraft in your own way - and thus much more relaxed. If you only want to participate in raids or run instances, you can do so - without the obligation imposed on Shadowlands to work through certain milestones beforehand.
When it comes to lore, Blizzard uses its bag of tricks anyway. With World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, players will be able to experience many new things, but also feel the (dragon) touch of nostalgia. Every dragon aspect will play a part, good stories seem guaranteed. Due to the sheer age of the dragons - and the role of the titans - Blizzard has also kept many back doors open to itself in order to be able to intervene in the story if necessary.
Rarely before have fans been as unanimous as they were with World of Warcraft: Dragonflight: this expansion will be just fine.
The quality can be deduced even before the release based on the experiences from the beta and the pre-patches. It clearly surpasses the previous three expansions. World of Warcraft: Dragonflight is also a kind of reconciliation with the fans.
