The first CATAN Escape Room will open in Frankfurt on May 22, 2019. This is where one of the world's most famous board games hits
one of the strongest trends at the moment: Escape Rooms are themed rooms in which a group has to solve puzzles against time in order to escape again. The team has a maximum of 60 minutes for the tricky tasks. Real team spirit is also required in the world of CATAN.
Trend meets cult:
Game designer Klaus Teuber created a milestone in board game history back in 1995: "CATAN - The Game" founded the so-called German Games. Not only the variable game plan, also the trend-setting game rules for a quick start and the possibility of the players to trade among each other were completely new for the gaming world at that time. Since then, a worldwide fan base has developed around the brand, ranging from a small town in Hesse to the famous Silicon Valley to Hollywood.
Around 20 years later, a new, ongoing trend emerged: Escape Rooms. Real rooms from which players have to escape by solving puzzles - also in a team. Now the trend meets the cult: The first CATAN Escape Room was created in cooperation with Escape Events, which are celebrating their fifth anniversary in Frankfurt this year. The room is basically playable for everyone. Basic knowledge of the board game or the rules is not required.
CATAN is a family game and so the Escape Room in Frankfurt is also suitable for the whole family. Young people aged 16 and over are allowed to play alone, children aged 6 to 15 accompanied by an adult. Two to eight players can work together as a team.
Even if knowledge of the rules is not necessary, passionate CATAN players will notice that the dealer plays a central role and that the CATAN extension "Cities and Knights" is also cited. And of course the different landscapes and the well-known raw materials wood, ore, clay, grain and wool should not be missing.
Klaus Teuber's world hit CATAN and its extensions have sold around 1995 million times since they were first published in 27 and have been published in over 70 countries. In addition to the classic board game, the expansions and special editions, players will find even more Catan fun in card games, computer games or apps.
