Good news for computer and video gamers: gamescom, the world's largest event for computer and video games, remains in Cologne. This was announced today by Koelnmesse GmbH and game - the association of the German games industry. The two partners agreed on a new contract.
Koelnmesse and game extend gamescom contract
The video games and entertainment fair has been held in Cologne since 2009. At its tenth edition last year, 370.000 people from 114 countries came to the cathedral city on the Rhine. With 1.037 exhibitors from 56 countries, new records were achieved. gamescom not only maintain, but also further expand its role as the largest international games festival and Europe's leading business platform for the games industry.
"The gamescom has undergone a unique development and has been able to increase its relevance for gamers and trade visitors year after year since 2009. The new contract deepens the partnership between game and Koelnmesse and enables us to dynamically develop gamescom together and thus adapt it even better to the trends in our industry."
Ralf Wirsing, Managing Director of Ubisoft (DE) and CEO of game
Gerald Böse, CEO of Koelnmesse, also sees “the seamless continuation of the good cooperation with game as a gratifying consequence of the incomparable development that gamescom has taken in Cologne: it was a leader in its segment right from the start, and today it is undisputed international hotspot.
Cologne stands for the gamescom and gamescom stands for Cologne. We want to expand this good and solid connection for the benefit of the games industry and the trade fair location."
Many players should be happy that Gamescom will keep its location - after all, the "Heart of Gaming" continues to beat in the most populous federal state in the republic. Every year, hundreds of thousands of visitors from over a hundred countries celebrate the latest games here in Cologne, as do millions of fans worldwide via digital channels.
The great experience in hosting the gigantic gaming event is of particular benefit to national and international visitors. Although Gamescom has been taking place in Cologne for around a decade, there are annual improvements in terms of organization - especially in terms of the regular control of visitor flows.
“The joint strategy process over the past few months has proven that Koelnmesse is exactly the right partner for us. The great support given to gamescom and the games industry by the city of Cologne and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia is also an important building block for the unique success of gamescom, which we will now continue to expand. "
Felix Falk, game managing director
Koelnmesse as a location is also an international leader in the implementation of events in the digital media, entertainment and mobility sectors. Trade fairs such as photokina, DMEXCO, gamescom, INTERMOT and THE TIRE COLOGNE are established as leading international trade fairs.
Until when gamescom will remain in Cologne is uncertain. The only thing that is certain is that the trade fair will continue at its previous location.
The fact that the organizers are silent about the duration of the contract is nothing new. This has also been the case in the past.
Gamescom 2019 will take place next summer, from August 20th to 24th. More information at www.gamescom.de as well as under www.koelnmesse.de.
