Board games and accessories – these things are now going together more and more often and better. A scene has really developed in the toy industry that is all about developing board game accessories. Gamegenic wants to be at the forefront. The company of Asmodee-Group works tirelessly to develop new convenient solutions to help players with sorting or archiving. The latest prank: the token silo.
There are situations at the board game table that make even die-hard fans despair: sorting tokens, for example. Hardly anything is less fun than sorting the small cardboard tiles before or after the game in board games with tons of material. It is not uncommon for parts to simply end up in a plastic bag, accompanied by a “I’ll sort them later”. In the meantime, the following applies: You no longer have to feel the frustration!
Token Silo: modular, practical, flat
Accessories can help - matching inlays for the board game box or sorting aids or storage boxes. The latter can be replaced with parts from the hardware store. A sorting box for nails or screws is a good and cheap start, but fans often do not want to be satisfied with the workaround. This is exactly where the accessory manufacturer Gamegenic comes in: the Asmodee company now offers a colorful range of luxury accessories – from card sleeves and deck boxes to plastic tubes for gaming mats.
And Gamegenic also has a solution in its portfolio for tokens and other small parts. The token silo is advertised as a revolution. On closer inspection, it is basically a plastic box measuring around 20 x 16 x 3 centimeters, available in a variety of colors from black to multicolored. The obvious practical thing is the nine removable compartments in three different sizes.
However, the Token Silo offers far more features on the level of detail that prove to be extremely helpful: the design is modular, so it can be adjusted if you own more than one Token Silo - so the boxes can be tailored almost perfectly to a board game. A large compartment is also included ex works, in which cards including their sleeves easily fit. There is space in the single compartment for 40 single-sleeved or 75 unsleeved cards - of course optimized for the in-house protective sleeves.
Everything has a fixed place
The lid can be attached under the token silo. Clever: This way nothing flies around and nothing lies around. Cleared empty - the individual modules are distributed as small bowls on the table - you can use Gamegenic's invention as a dice bowl. Overall, the decorative part can also be stacked.
Sure, with a price of around 15 euros, the Token Silo - by the way an autumn novelty from accessories specialist Gamegenic - is anything but cheap to buy, especially if you buy two or more of the boxes. But: the box proves to be practical on the table. Tiles, resources, markers - everything finds a place. In addition, thanks to the uniform design, it also looks much tidier than when using any bowls. After all, aesthetics are now also part of the luxury board game hobby. And: Anyone who leaves 70, 90 or even 140 euros for a parlor game at the counter wants to know that their material is well protected. In any case, the Token Silo succeeds. Nothing wobbles, the plastic is stable, the idea is quite innovative.
The workmanship is of high quality, and it is no comparison to many a self-made bowl from the 3D printer. In the meantime, Gamegenic's portfolio has grown considerably. You can tell that the creators develop board game accessories from the role of experts. Behind the products are practical ideas with added value. The target group: mainly frequent players. The parts are well received by them, and the company scores particularly well with the deck boxes. So you pay for the good name with the slightly higher prices. At least with the token silo, the investment should also prove to be worthwhile. The colorful boxes are already available.
Gamegenic no longer serves a niche: board game accessories are a set topic, especially among those who know the scene. In-house productions from the 3D printer, bought gems from relevant internet shops or equipment from specialists - there is more on the gaming table than just the board game including the publishing material. Not without reason: often oversized game boxes invite you to design the inner workings of a box yourself, but above all to make it practical. Using the bags - which are not always included anyway - is not only frowned upon by real fans - it can lead to damage from hits or friction, especially with cardboard markers. This is particularly annoying for games in the price range of a game console or a good bottle of champagne. Companies like Gamegenic therefore occupy a welcome place in the industry with professional accessories.
Incidentally, there is one disadvantage with the Token Silo, despite the practical features: After the board game, you still have to sort the tiles from the game board into the compartments by hand.
