The connoisseur game The Vale of Eternity already attracted a lot of attention at the SPIEL trade fair in Essen in October 2023. In a livestream of the online convention CONspiracy in December 2023, Pegasus Spiele announced for the first time the German release of the Engine Builder game with fantastic illustrations.
The core of the card game consists of 70 different creatures from various mythologies that trigger different effects. The cards show, among others, the biblical Leviathan, the Greek Hydra, the Japanese Yuki Onna, the Nordic Odin and the Scottish Nessie. Despite the simple rules, the strategic combination of the various possibilities represents a tactical challenge. Two to four players aged ten and over can expect games that last around 30 to 45 minutes.
A round consists of three phases. First, the players choose two creatures from the open display. In the second phase, they can perform different actions in any number and order. They can either sell the two creatures they have chosen to receive runestones or tame the creatures, i.e. take them into their hand. To summon creatures, i.e. to place them in their own display, or to release them, i.e. to remove them from their own display, runestones must be paid. In the third and final phase, the active effects of all creatures in their own display are activated. The connoisseur game ends after the tenth round or after ae playersin more than 60 points.
