Frontier Developments plc and developer Petroglyph (Command & Conquer: Remastered, Star Wars: Empire at War) invite players to reshape battlefields and create new stories as part of a new update to the World War I RTS epic The Great War: Western Front.
Commanders now have an additional arsenal of modding tools that provide the ultimate sandbox for reimagining trench warfare.
As part of an update released on June 28th, the first modding tools were made available to players, allowing them to develop their own campaigns and 3D assets via a model converter as well as an in-game mod manager that allows custom audio, Textures and models supported. This update also introduced seven new infantry types and three highly sought-after tanks, including the iconic French Saint-Chamond.
Redesigning World War I battlefields
Today's update expands modding support with a map editor and UI editor, allowing commanders to create unique battlefields and gain even greater control of the Western Front. The update also introduces three new skirmish and multiplayer maps, as well as a brand new historical mission created using the new modding tools. At the Battle of Vimy Ridge, considered a defining moment for the Canadian Forces during the war, barrage fire was used to provide cover for advancing troops as they demonstrated unwavering courage. Anything to capture a critical point on the Western Front.
In addition, commanders can now view the ongoing statistics of their current campaign and reinforce their front lines with two new trench positions - an anti-aircraft nest to keep the skies clear of enemy fighters and bombers, and an ammunition depot to reduce the cost of resupplying nearby artillery pieces reduced, but if it is destroyed there is a risk of detonation.
The Great War: Western Front puts players in the position of commanding one of the most important conflicts in history. They take command of either the Allies or the Central Powers and attempt to turn things around to emerge victorious from a harsh war of attrition. Among other things, players command the Western Front from the perspective of a great strategist in the role of theater commander. In the RTS gameplay mode, you also act as a field commander and must carefully manage supplies and national will on the way to victory. On the battlefield, every decision makes the difference between success and defeat, from relentless artillery bombardment to the construction of detailed trench networks that provide vital protection from enemy machine gun fire. Victory can be won, but at what cost?
The Great War: Western Front is available now via Steam and the Epic Games Store at a recommended retail price of 34,99 euros.
