The Great War: Western Front was developed by Petroglyph in collaboration with Frontier Foundry. The developers of Petroglyph can look back on a long tradition of genre-defining strategy games. This time, they invite players to experience an authentic RTS set in the World War I setting. In this captivating new title, players must travel back in time and make difficult choices in order to either relive or redefine one of the most fundamental conflicts in modern history.
Trench warfare in World War I
As commander of either the Allies or the Central Powers, players make tactical and strategic decisions that affect the entire Western Front, one of the key theaters of World War I. In the dual roles of Theater Commander and Field Commander, they master both turn-based strategy and real-time battles.
The Great War: Western Front offers authentic trench warfare in a level of detail never before seen in the RTS genre. Each vantage point offers its own unique mechanics that allow you to gain an advantage over your opponent, whether attacking or defending. At each level, players must consider their strategy, carefully allocating resources and deciding which locations to fortify. All of these are important decisions in a war where every inch can make the difference. Researching new technologies, from poison gas to advanced tanks, can give players the upper hand to turn the tide of war.
Battles take place in a living, persistent world where the battlefields are marked by previous engagements. In addition, as players revisit them, changing weather conditions pose additional challenges for each unit.
