The Berlin developer studio Yager and Tencent Holdings announced that they will deepen their strategic cooperation with another investment. Tencent acquired a majority stake in Yager. The Berlin studio should, however, remain independent under the existing company structure and management.
The Berlin studio Yager expects better access to the development and other resources of the tech giant Tencent as well as strategic advice from the cooperation.
Cooperation only initiated last year
“The renewed investment by Tencent is a great vote of confidence and a confirmation of the enormous potential behind the realignment of our challenging PvPvE shooter 'The Cycle'. For us, the majority stake means one thing above all: more resources for expanding the studio and the games under development, ”says Timo Ullmann, studio manager at Yager. "With Tencent we now have a strong, global partner who supports our strategic plans for Yager."
The two companies first teamed up last year when Tencent acquired a minority stake in Yager. The German studio, which has existed since 1999, has already developed several hit games, including a futuristic combat flight simulation called "Yager" and "Spec Ops: The Line". The third-person shooter stood out not only for its addicting gameplay, but also for the moral choices players had to make.
The competitive quest shooter "The Cycle" is currently in Early Access. The new version with extensive gameplay changes recently started its first alpha test, more information will follow. YAGER is one of the 10 largest German developer studios and employs around 140 people.
