With the new Lego set Star Wars Star Wars fans can program the “Boost Droid” R2-D2 and send it on an exploration trip: The Lego Group presented the new license-based set, which will be available in Germany, Austria and Switzerland from October 4, 2019. R2-D2, Gonk or Mouse Droid: Small and large Star Wars fans can choose which of the three legendary ones with this set Star Wars They want to build droids and then send them on an exploration trip across the living room using the intuitive Lego Boost app and the child-friendly programming program via Bluetooth control.

These are the droids you're looking for!

For the first time, the Lego Boost programming technology, with which basic knowledge and principles of programming are learned in a playful way, is integrated into a licensed product. Star Wars Fans build the droids – or even models they create themselves – and then insert the Bluetooth-controlled Lego Move hub included in the set into one of the models. The built model comes to life using the intuitive drag-and-drop programming environment, which has been completely redesigned for the new set and adapted to the Star Wars universe. Using simple command blocks in the free Lego Boost app, kids activate and mobilize their droid and program different behaviors to remotely control their model. Over 40 missions, which are also included in the app, provide you with further inspiration.

“In this constantly changing society, more and more key competencies are in demand. STEM skills are essential to help children meet future challenges. The foundation for these skills is laid in childhood and we want to support them through Lego Boost and the creative and intuitive programming that comes with it.”

Julia Goldin, Chief Marketing Officer of the Lego Group.

The programmable Lego Star Wars "Boost Droid" set is the latest example of the Lego Group's ongoing efforts to use innovative products to motivate children to learn and experiment through play. Playing with the Lego Star Wars droids not only teaches them important programming basics, but also improves their creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving and communication skills.

Even though it will be around six months until the start of sales in the DA-CH region on October 4, 2019, detailed product information is already available. The set will contain a color and distance detection sensor as well as an interactive motor and a Bluetooth move hub that is inserted into the respective droid model. All three droids - R1.177-D2, Gonk and Maus droid - can be built from a total of 2 elements at the same time. Each model has individual skills and character traits as well as authentic Star Wars sounds and music, which are activated using the Lego Boost app.
