The horror returns: For Silent Hill, Konami is registering a whole range of new titles, and a film and an interactive TV series are also to be released. As quiet as it may have been for the video game series for a long time, it's back with a big bang.
In the late XNUMXs, Silent Hill rode the wave that Capcom unleashed with Resident Evil. Since then, both brands have existed in parallel - one is now extensive, the other a kind of collector's item. Nevertheless, both Resident Evil and Silent Hill are prime examples of top-class survival horror. After a long dry spell, fans of Silent Hill can now look forward to a whole load of new titles, including well-known and proven ones, but also new ones.
Silent Hill: Years of Horror is coming
Silent Hill celebrated a tailor-made debut in 1999. The horror game was knighted: "Not released under the age of 18" rated the USK at the time. Scary enough promised this unofficial genre award. And also some hard content. In fact, the developers of Team Silent at Konami made extensive use of what the world of horror has to offer: awkward characters, mystery, a spooky setting, shock and fright effects - and a classic story that comes with a vacation from father and daughter in a supposedly idyllic small town.
The debut was successful, Silent Hill was positively received by critics and fans. Above all, the soundtrack by Akira Yamaoka is legendary – only with Silent Hill: Downpour did the constant change, because Yamaoka left Konami. That was in 2009.
About ten years ago, the role-playing game Silent Hill: Book of Memories marked a kind of ending. Later planned titles were dropped, including Silent Hill 5.
The recent announcements came as a surprise: not because of the brand's continuity, but because of the scope. Two new ones, a remake of Silent Hill 2, an interactive TV series and a Movie develop. The latter comes from the director of the original, Christophe Gans. So you want to build on the quality of the premiere work and not on the screwed up second part Silent Hill: Revelation. The strip had received mostly negative reviews.
The new video games and that are much more interesting for gamers Silent Hill 2 remake. The Polish Bloober team is responsible for the latter title. The developers also know each other in the horror genre. Most recently, The Medium was a decent horror adventure with a convincing and innovative dual-reality mechanism - the two worlds were partly connected for puzzles. Especially for Silent Hill, the experience from the development of that game concept could prove to be helpful. In any case, the remake of Silent Hill 2 seems to be in good hands with the studio.
It is similar with the completely new adventure under the title Silent Hill Townfall to be: No Code and Annapurna Interactive have their fingers in the pie. The developers have already convinced with “Stories Untold”, and smaller innovative game tricks can also be expected from Annapurna. It is to be expected that Townfall will differ from previous games in the Silent Hill series: as a new type of text adventure, all signs point to experimentation. There are hardly any details, a trailer remains mysterious and reveals next to nothing. Typical Silent Hill – somehow.
Silent Hill f - Horror in Japan of the sixties
A hit was the announcement of "Silent Hill". The horror game with the strange name brings the horror to Japan in the sixties. The trailer is about two minutes long, but reveals little. You see a rural area, a creepy plant plague. One hears eerily painful music. One thing seems certain: Silent Hill f is maximally uncomfortable in its presentation. It is unclear when the game will appear – there was not even a vague hint. Also unknown are the platforms on which you will play Silent Hill f. But it will probably no longer be the last-gen consoles.
With Silent Hill Ascension Konami dares another experiment. It is a streaming series with interactive elements. The viewers can influence the course of the story at certain points. How and to what extent this will be possible is uncertain. Netflix had already tried something similar with Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, among others. After all, there is already a start window for Silent Hill Ascension: The streaming series should appear in 2023.
