Star Wars fans take note: Fantasy Flight Games, in partnership with Lucasfilm, has announced the upcoming release of Star Wars: Unlimited, a new trading card game. The game features iconic heroes, villains, ships, and locations from across the iconic Star Wars franchise, including films, TV series, comics, video games, and more. The game is expected to be released worldwide in 2024.

There are some trading card games, but there is no Star Wars TCG among the currently supported titles. After the demise of Decipher's Star Wars Customizable Card Game shortly after the millennium, there was no real alternative for Power-savvy trading card fans. That is changing now: In the year 2024, Asmodee will release a brand new Star Wars trading card game, for which Fantasy Flight Games is responsible.

"New Star Wars Trading Card Game: Strategic Deep"

The creators describe Star Wars: Unlimited as a "fast-paced, dynamic game that is both easy to learn and strategically deep". The trading card game had been developed clandestinely over the past few years, as is now known.

Fans can now look forward to a regular release schedule of three sets per year. An 'Organized Play' has been developed alongside work on the game from the beginning, is fully integrated with the game and will be available from day one. From weekly community experiences in local stores to major global events, all players, regardless of their
Levels of play, look forward to highlights.

"It was important for us to ensure that this game is accessible to all players. Whether you're a casual gamer, tournament player, or collector, there's something for everyone in this game,” said Jim Cartwright, Product Strategy Director at Fantasy Flight Games. “Simple game mechanics are the driving force behind the design. It's clear and concise, no frills - a card game at its purest."

Star Wars fans and collectors can experience the Star Wars galaxy in a whole new way with fresh, never-before-seen artwork. Dedicated TCG fans and collectors can look forward to collecting special cards with different visual designs. And indeed, at least the only published illustration so far indicates a change of style - so far all Star Wars graphics in the games of Fantasy Flight Games have looked the same, albeit with a high visual quality. For the new trading card game, they are probably going for a more comic-like look - compare with Disney Lorcana. Perhaps the parallels to the Disney hero TCG are no coincidence, after all the licenses are all owned by the "House of the mouse".

“The ability to commission a new design for each card in this game ensures an exciting and cohesive style throughout. We thought about how the cards would look side by side on the table,” says Brian Schomburg, Visual Creative Director for Fantasy Flight Games. "We're proud to create something so unique using the iconic characters and locations that Lucasfilm brought to life with the Star Wars franchise."

“Star Wars: Unlimited is the culmination of FFG's long history of working with the acclaimed Star Wars brand. All departments of the studio put an incredible amount of resources into this game. We couldn't be more excited about the release and look forward to everyone experiencing it," said Chris Gerber, Head of Studio at Fantasy Flight Games. "We can't wait to show you more."

The cover photo also gives a hint that Star Wars Unlimited appears to be aligned with the classic trilogy, at least for the start of the trading card game. With the approaching release in the coming year, an increased volume of information is to be expected.
