Under the patronage of Nathanael Liminski, State Secretary responsible for the media and head of the State Chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia, the first “Smart Camp - Create & play responsibly” for schools is taking place in Düsseldorf.

Responsible use of games and gambling

For three days, 70 students from the Free Christian Comprehensive School deal with the responsible handling of gaming and gambling.

“Being able to play anywhere and anytime on the smartphone - that is now part of everyday life for most children and young people. That is why it is all the more important to be able to handle games confidently, responsibly and competently. This is exactly what the Smart Camp wants to convey: to raise awareness of the risks of the digital world while we take advantage of the opportunities - that is also the goal of the state government. "

Nathanael Liminski, State Secretary responsible for media, Head of the State Chancellery (North Rhine-Westphalia)

The innovative concept was developed by the digital education initiative BG3000 in cooperation with WestLotto and TÜV Rheinland. Germany's largest lottery organizer is thus playing a pioneering role in education and prevention and specifically supports early awareness-raising in this area.

“Just like normal gaming, gambling is also increasingly moving into the digital world. Who does not take this into account, loses the connection. Even today, young people are already confronted with a large number of gambling offers on the Internet. Many of them seem harmless, but are often more than a "pocket money trap!" With the Smart Camps we are breaking new ground in prevention, because bans are of little use. We rely on education, information and media skills. "

WestLotto managing director Andreas Kötter

At the premiere of the “Smart Camp - Create and play responsibly” pupils from the 11th to 13th grade learn how to use digital games safely and, above all, healthily.

“Self-determined and reflective action is extremely important when it comes to gaming and gambling. The Internet enables access to providers all over the world who do not necessarily share our German ideas about youth and consumer protection. We can only protect young people effectively if we raise their awareness and educate them sufficiently. Therefore, as a testing company, we promote the development of skills for digital health beyond stress and constraints. "

Andreas Walter, “Smart Camps” project manager for TÜV Rheinland Akademie GmbH

How can I avoid stress or even addiction? How do I protect my data? How do I recognize dubious providers? Psychologists as well as internet and legal experts investigate these questions on the first day of the camp.

“As the founder of BG3000, I have fought for a long time to find strong partners who dare to bring gaming to school. There is a huge opportunity to make use of young people's fascination for gaming and thus to convey learning and empathy in a constructive way. A big thank you to WestLotto and State Secretary Liminski for the great commitment, the support and the use of opportunities as well as the prevention efforts. "

Simone Stein-Lücke, founder of BG3000

On the second and third day the young people get creative themselves and create their own contributions together with stars from the social media world in the workshops “YouTube - Broadcast yourself”, “Discover Instagram”, “Prezi - Powerpoint was yesterday” and “Journalism in digital age ”.

Dr. Holger Braune, headmaster of the Free Christian Comprehensive School in Düsseldorf is convinced of the sustainable success of the new concept. The advancing digitization also increases the demands on the competent media use of our students. Smartphones, tablets and the like enable the creation of learning outcomes that were unthinkable until recently.

"We are pleased to be able to offer a multi-day Smart Camp thanks to the kind support of BG3000, which further promotes and challenges the pupils of our upper level in terms of media skills in a creative and interdisciplinary manner."

Dr. Holger Braune, headmaster of the Free Christian Comprehensive School

In addition to great opportunities for learning, digital worlds also pose risks. The Free Christian Comprehensive School Düsseldorf offers a variety of learning opportunities and projects so that our students can use the opportunities of digitization in a media-competent manner and protect themselves from dangers.
