SNK Corporation has confirmed the release of Samurai Shodown for the Xbox Series X|S power consoles. The game will be released on March 16th. In collaboration with Koch Media, a physical edition will also be released in Europe, North America, South America, Africa, Oceania, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East at the same time. Samurai Shodown is already for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well Nintendo Switch, Google Stadia and Windows PC available via the Epic Games Store.

Since it was first published in 1993, the Samurai Shodown game series has stood for crisp fights and iconic characters. Like hardly any other beat'em-up, this title has defined armed arena combat. In doing so, SNK Corporation did not rush from one series part to the next. In 2019 - eleven years after the last part - Samurai Shodown continued the tradition of the series.

Samurai Shodown: Weapon-based knocking with thunderstorm effects

The new title takes place in 18th century Japan, three years before the first part and celebrates the return of 13 fan favorites as well as three completely new heroes, including Shizumaru Hisame, protagonist from Samurai Shodown III, who together with Gongsun Li from the popular mobile Game Honor of Kings enters the arena.

Additional characters are available via Season Pass 1 and 2, the third pass will be released in February 2021. Earlier mechanics of the predecessors such as the Rage Gauge, the Lighting Blade or the Super Special Moves are also returning and allow players themselves to be hopeless to decide appearing games for themselves. At any rate, SNK Corporation wants to use the computing power of the new consoles. On the Xbox Series X, the game should run with a smooth 120 FPS.

The game now also makes the leap to Microsoft's new power console. March 16 is the deadline: The latest part of the series will be released for Xbox Series X | S. Xbox One owners will receive the game through Smart Delivery. Owners of a game version for the previous generation of consoles can use the game on their Series X | S at no additional cost. Purchased DLCs are also transferable.

A physical edition will also be available in stores; Koch Media will be responsible for distribution. The box will be available with some additional content: The Season Pass 1 including four characters and a costume. In addition, the new character Cham Cham will join the character selection as soon as the corresponding DLC has been released.

Both the physical and digital editions of Samurai Shodown for Xbox Series X | S appear at a price of 54,99 euros.
