In Hamburg there are not only fish sandwiches and an ex-undelegated football club, but also innovations. The German development studio Rockfish Games recently launched a crowdfunding campaign on the platform Kickstarter released to finance the sequel to the space loot shooter Everspace, Everspace 2. The goal of the campaign: an impressive 450.000 euros. The Kickstarter for Everspace 2 runs until November 4th.

Compared to the space mega-project “Star Citizen”, around half a million euros is the famous drop on your hot asteroid close to the sun – for a German Kickstartercampaign, the 450.000 euros are still ambitious. Rockfish Games will probably actually reach its financing goal, because behind the money there is a real top title: Everspace 2.

Everspace: No longer an insider tip

When the space-loot shooter was released in 2016, the fast, rewarding space-shooting was a real refreshment for the genre. The first part was already financed via Kickstarter - and it was extremely successful. The rogue-like space shooter became a surprise hit that sold around a million times.

Today, three years later, Everspace is no longer an insider tip, but a title that seems to be crying out for a successor. And Rockfish Games is answering the fans' calls with a new one Kickstartercampaign - this time for a successor that is more than just a detailed revision of a working video game. Everspace 2 feels just as fast and arcade-like, but relies on an open world. An open space even.

With RPG elements and player advances, the creators want to offer fans not only fast action, but also long-term entertainment. What is essential: more choice of player ships and good storytelling. Rockfish Games wants to accommodate both in Everspace 2.

Already on the Gamescom 2019 in Cologne, Rockfish Games announced the successor to Everspace as part of the opening show Gamescom: Opening Night Live Trailer. Rockfish Games has revealed the associated plans: A more open game world, more roleplaying and progression, exciting storytelling - but still the "uncompromising space action" known from the first part. This was announced by Michael Schade, CEO and one of the founders of the Hamburg games company.

In the indie area, Everspace 2 was actually playable: And it was already fun at that point. The story ties in directly with the predecessor. The players are surviving clone pilots, but the scientific program no longer exists. Instead, the last clones are hunted. Exploring the universe extensively in Everspace 2, improving the spaceship and advancing player progress is part of the players' survival strategy - and a clever move to catapult fans right into the story. Author Joshua Rubin, who has already worked on games like Destiny, Assassin's Creed 2 and The Walking Dead, is also responsible for this.

Visually, Everspace was already a stunner, and that won't change with the successor either. On the contrary, Everspace 2 brings the infinite and inhospitable expanses of space onto the screen in a way that few other space shooters can do.

If you want to support the Kickstarter campaign, you have several options: the standard edition is available for 40 euros, and the digital soundtrack on top for 2 euros. Interesting for fans: The Everspace 70 Closed Beta is part of the package at a price of 80 euros. For 5.000 euros there is even access to the closed alpha. Kickstarter wouldn't be Kickstarter if it didn't also offer some crazy support options: For example, including a visit to Hamburg including a meet & greet for a mere 8.500 euros. The Big Boss Pledge even costs 55.000 euros, for which exactly one "backer" can help to design a boss opponent including a fight - and of course travel to Hamburg. This is the way to the Kickstarter campaign, which is already worth over XNUMX euros Link.

If the Hamburg developers can keep to their schedule, Everspace 2 will appear in the second half of 2022 for PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One. But fans don't have to wait until the final release: Everspace 2 should enter the Early Access phase by the end of 2020.
