Private Division, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, has announced publishing agreements with leading independent developers Die Gute Fabrik, Evening Star, Piccolo Studio and Yellow Brick Games.
Following the recent acquisition of Roll7 in January, the previously unannounced titles from these four studios will now join Private Division's portfolio, which already includes the Kerbal Space Program franchise, OlliOlli World, The Outer Worlds and more.
Four titles in early development
"At Private Division, we nurture the best creative talent in the gaming industry, and these four teams and their experiences represent a range of genres that will appeal to many different gaming audiences," said Michael Worosz, executive vice president and head of Private Division. “Die Gute Fabrik, Evening Star, Piccolo Studio and Yellow Brick Games each have their own unique and distinctly different creative visions. We look forward to helping them bring their games to the world.”
Gute Fabrik was founded in 2008 by Nils Deneken and is now headed by CEO and Creative Director Hannah Nicklin. The Copenhagen-based company develops story-driven games and is best known for 2019's IGF and Indiecade award-winning Mutazione, a mutant soap opera where small-town gossip meets the supernatural. Drawing inspiration from a wide variety of disciplines and stories, Die Gute Fabrik aims to push the boundaries of what games can be. The team is currently working on a new story-driven title.
"We're thrilled that Private Division shares our vision of the experience we want to create for our players and the ethos we work with to achieve that," said Hannah Nicklin, Studio Lead and Creative Director at Die Gute Fabrik. "We're really looking forward to our next story-driven adventure and have assembled a great team for it. We can't wait to reveal more information about it.”
Evening Star was founded in 2018 by Christian Whitehead, Dave Padilla, Tom Fry, Hunter Bridges and Brad Flick. The company is based in Los Angeles, but also has offices in London and Melbourne. The founders previously worked on the critically acclaimed Sonic Mania Plus for SEGA. Their debut title is an as yet unannounced 3D action platformer that will use their own Star Engine.
"We focus on leveraging the individual skills of the team to create compelling gaming experiences with our unique sense of style," said Dave Padilla, CEO of Evening Star. “Private Division is a fantastic partner with a team that is just as passionate about our vision. We look forward to sharing more about the new world we are creating as the studio continues to grow.”
Piccolo Studio was founded in 2015 by Alexis Corominas, Jordi Ministral and Oriol Pujado after the three friends left their successful advertising agency in Barcelona to pursue their passion for video games. Piccolo has hired many of Spain's most talented game developers and has garnered critical acclaim for its storytelling and gameplay on its debut title, Arise: A Simple Story. The studio is currently developing a completely new IP in cooperation with Private Division.
"At Piccolo Studios, we create stories that are very personal, yet revolve around universal themes and resonate with all of our players," said Alexis Corominas, co-founder of Piccolo Studio. "We tell our stories in a special way and are very pleased to have found a publisher who supports our vision and is just as interested in these stories reaching a large audience."
Yellow Brick Games was founded in Quebec City in 2020 by industry veterans Thomas Giroux, Mike Laidlaw, Jeff Skalski and Frédéric St-Laurent B. Having worked on a variety of successful AAA franchises including Dragon Age, Assassin's Creed and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six, the team at Yellow Brick Games is now on a mission to provide innovative and fresh gameplay with a small but extremely capable crew. The studio believes that new systems enable lush and interactive worlds and are currently working on an ambitious new action RPG.
"I found the challenge of helping to build a new studio full of incredible talent, ambitious ideas and an absolute focus on our product, while also being able to take risks that may not be possible in AAA game development, very stimulating says Mike Laidlaw, Chief Creative Officer of Yellow Brick Games. "We want our debut title to be something special and partnering with Private Division provides our team with the support they need to produce a truly memorable game."
Private Division will announce more details about the respective projects together with the developers. All four titles are currently in an early stage of development and have no fixed release dates. The release of the first of these titles is not expected until Take-Two's fiscal year 2024.
