If you thought the augmented reality mobile game Pokémon Go was dead, you were wrong. Last year, Pokémon Go had its highest sales so far – and thus new record revenues. The game even made more in 2019 than it did in the year it was released. This is according to a report by Sensor Tower. With an annual turnover of almost 900 million US dollars, the mobile game is the undisputed number one among the “GPS games” – well ahead of well-known competitors such as Jurassic World Alive or Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.

The king is ... far from dead. The augmented reality mobile game Pokémon Go from Niantic achieved record sales of 894 million US dollars last year. This means that the income is around 60 million US dollars higher than in the 2016 release year. The cuddly pocket monsters are well received.

Pokémon Go increases annual sales by ten percent

Niantic was able to increase annual sales by around ten percent compared to the previous year. There is not much left of the slump in 2017 with “only” around 560 million US dollars. Pokémon Go not only took first place among the “GPS games”, but was also the fifth most successful mobile game worldwide last year.

The summer months of August and September in particular supported the success of Pokémon Go and are now considered to be the most profitable months since summer 2016. Both months together generated 242 million US dollars, almost a third of total annual sales.

Much of the revenue generated by Pokémon Go in the United States, where $ 335 million could be converted. Japan and Germany follow behind. In terms of platforms, Google Play is ahead of the game with a share of 54 percent. In total, Niantic Labs made around $ 3,1 billion from Pokémon Go.

Responsible for the success are probably not only regular updates of Pokémon Go, but also the strengthening of the Pokémon franchise with the (approaching) release of Pokémon - Sword and Shield, that too good sales could achieve and now even for one Season Pass was expanded.
