Playstation VR2: Release at a steep price

As Sony has announced, the virtual reality accessory Playstation VR2 will be launched next spring. However, the price is on the same level as a Playstation 5. Players have to dig deep into their pockets. 

Sony promises the “next generation of virtual reality gaming” when announcing the release date of the Playstation VR2. The accessories should be available from February 22, 2023, according to the hardware manufacturer's plan. And that's not all: the matching charging dock will be released on the same day. Of course, that costs extra. 

Playstation VR2: Bundle for 650 euros

One thing is already clear: The price of the Playstation VR2 will be at the level of the current price of the Playstation 5. Or about it. This depends on the size of the player's order. Sony Interactive will therefore deliver PlayStation VR2 from February 22, 2023 – for 599,99 euros there is then the basic equipment with the PSVR2 headset, the PSVR2 Sense controller and stereo headphones.

Sony also offers an optional PlayStation VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle for 649,99 euros. Then there is the VR game Call of the Mountain by Guerrilla Games as an additional part of the package. If you also want the charging station for the controller, you have to pay an additional 49,99 euros. 

In the meantime, Sony has made the release date official. Previously, the Playstation VR2 was only said to be launched in early 2023. 

Technically, some new features seem to be offered: For example, you should be able to keep an eye on the environment and switch between virtual reality and the actual environment at the push of a button. You don't have to take off your glasses for this. 

In VR mode, Sony Interactive assumes a 360-degree view at a resolution of 4.000 by 2.040 (2.000 by 2.040 per eye). The frame rate will be 90Hz/120Hz. There should also be a cinema mode: then the PS5 console and user interface will be displayed on a “virtual screen”, including HDR and with a resolution of 1.920 by 1.080.
