The cat is out of the bag: The Sony Playstation 5 will be released at the end of 2020. This was announced by "Wired" reporters in an interview with the head behind Playstation, Jim Ryan. Even the Playstation boss himself is relieved. Fans only have to wait about a year for the next-generation console to appear on the. The name is not surprising: Sony Playstation 5 (PS5).

Having to keep a secret in today's information age seems to be exhausting in the long run. Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan said he was relieved to finally be able to officially divulge the name of Sony's next-gen console. As part of an exclusive interview with editors from Wired.com the Playstation boss also spoke specifically about the release for the first time - and named a release date.

The Playstation 5 will be available from the end of 2020

The Playstation 5 will appear in stores just in time for the Christmas business. This is not a surprise, after all, the gift time is an unbeatable sales argument in the console and gaming sector. Much more surprising, however, is that the release date would suddenly - almost out of nowhere - be divulged by the Playstation CEO himself, almost as a side note during an interview.

As if the name and release date weren't enough, Jim Ryan and system architect Mark Cerny revealed more details. It was already clear in the spring that the Playstation 5 would support a resolution of up to 8K and 120 Hertz - and given the next-generation orientation, it's not surprising. The technology magazine "Wired" has now confirmed that a fast SSD hard drive will work in the Playstation 5 in order to bring games to the screens in the shortest possible time. Loading bars will probably be a thing of the past.

In any case, game content could also be downloaded separately in order to save valuable storage space. Multiplayer content doesn't have to be saved if players don't want to use it.

There is ray-tracing acceleration in the GPU hardware.

All PS5 games must be installed on the hard drive in order to benefit from the speed boost. Still, the PS5 will have a 4K Blu-Ray drive. Much more exciting for gamers is the fact that ray tracing will be anchored in the GPU hardware. The graphical leap to the next generation of Playstation is likely to be gigantic.

The term ray tracing haunts the gaming landscape again and again. Ray tracing is a technology that allows 3D objects to be displayed very realistically. In this way, photo-realistic image impressions can actually be generated. Basically, it is about the representation of the natural light effects on objects.

The Playstation controller is also being completely overhauled for the PS5. Above all, there are opportunities for developers to specifically control the back keys and to accommodate resistances in the control behavior. This could result in particularly interactive situations in games in which players have to press a key in a certain way: for example, if a character is stuck in a boggy ground and can be freed by pressing a key.

Overall, the haptic feeling will probably be significantly intensified by improved vibration and the adaptive trigger buttons. The Playstation 5 controller will also have a USB-C port, otherwise the differences are rather marginal. An official name of the "Dual Shock Controller 5" is not yet known.

Unsurprisingly, the Playstation 5 appears in a similar timeframe as Microsoft's Xbox Scarlett.
