Nintendo is sending Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for Nintendo Switch a new DLC fighter into the ring. This was announced at the Game Awards. Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII now faces Cloud Strife in Nintendo's fun game. The legendary antagonist is the second character from the FF VII series to be playable in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

As part of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Fighters Pass Vol. 2 Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the DLC fighter Sephiroth comes into play. The distinctive swordsman became the antagonist of the hero Cloud Strife by character designer Tetsuya Nomura. Other fighters included in the second expansion pass were Min Min from ARMS and Steve and Alex from Minecraft. The Fighters Pass Vol. 2 also contains three previously unknown fighter packages that are still to be released.

Super Smash Bros .: More details on Sephiroth will follow

As part of this year's Game Awards, Nintendo unveiled Sephiroth as a fighter and also showed a three-minute trailer in which the DLC fighter was allowed to personally introduce himself to his opponents. So far, there is not much information about his fighting skills, but Nintendo plans to provide more details on December 17th. And a corresponding video is to be published at 23 p.m. Central European time. It can be seen in the trailer - and unsurprisingly - that Sephiroth will not be without the use of his sword.

In the meantime, you can just check out the trailer that has been released:

More information

So that wouldn't be exciting enough as an announcement if Nintendo had another announcement in its luggage: Development and sales partner Capcom showed an announcement trailer for Ghosts' n Goblins: Resurrection, the latest title of the classic Ghosts' n GoblinsGame series. In fairytale optics, the new adventure appears as the successor to titles such as Ghosts 'n Goblins and Ghouls' n Ghosts. The digital publication of the title will take place on February 25, 2021.

Also interesting for fans of retro games: The digital games collection Capcom Arcade Stadium will include 32 classic Capcom titles and will be available in the Nintendo shop from February 2021. The collection includes the action game 1943: The Battle of Midway as a free download. Additional sets with other games, such as Bionic Commando, Strider and Super Street Fighter II Turbo, are available separately.

Spring is peppered with at least one other major release at Nintendo. On March 26th, 2021, Monster Hunter Rise will be the next action-packed offshoot of the popular Monster Hunter series for Nintendo Switch. A trailer features new monsters and a new location, and reveals a free demo version of the game that will be available for download from January.

Incidentally, there was also a prize at the Game Awards for Nintendo: So won Animal Crossing: New Horizons the award in the “Best Family” category, and other Nintendo Switch playable titles from Nintendo's development and sales partners won awards: Hades won in the “Best Action” and “Best Indie” categories, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate was named “Best Fighting” “-Game excellent.
