Valve is essentially following Nintendo's lead and releasing a new version of the Steam Deck that features an OLED screen. The Japanese console giant took a similar step with its hybrid console in 2021 - ultimately with success. Fans of the Steam Deck should also be happy about the completely revised version of the gaming handheld, after all, not only should the image quality improve, but the battery life should also be longer.
Two versions of the new Steam Deck
The Steam Deck OLED presented on the Valve website will be available in two variants: 512 GB of memory and with 1 TB of storage space. The new Steam Deck also features better WiFi and an improved fan to cool the entire system.
The new model with OLED is also slightly lighter than the original. As for the price, the 512GB version will be available for 569 euros, the 1TB model will cost 679 euros. Both handhelds will begin shipping on November 16th, with pre-orders starting soon. For example, the Steam Deck with 256 GB NVMe SSD and LDC display remains as a budget version.
To celebrate the launch of the OLED Steam Deck, Valve will release a limited edition version of the platform in the US and Canada. It is said to be “highly limited” and is considered an “experiment” by Valve.
Valve says the new Steam Deck OLED with HDR offers “impressive contrast,” brilliant clarity and a larger image. The display size is 7,4 inches. HDR in particular should significantly polish up the look, with richer colors and pure black.
