Not only Star Wars-Fans, but also video gamers are excited about this year's Star Wars Celebration. The reason: Respawn Entertainment and Bit Reactor are presenting their new Star Wars turn-based strategy game there. A leak on Bluesky now shows images from the game – and it looks pretty good.
Imagine being able to create a kind of Jagged Alliance or XCOM with only Star Wars-characters. This is likely what the new turn-based strategy game from Respawn Entertainment and Bit Reactor will be like. Gameplay screenshots that unexpectedly surfaced online suggest this. The game won't be officially unveiled until Celebration 2026; there will be a panel on the event on April 19.
So far, there's been little information worth mentioning about the new Star Wars game. It will feature a turn-based gameplay, but nothing else is known. The now leaked screenshots indicate that players will be able to control a bounty hunter and a Jedi, among other creatures, on the battlefield. Droids can also apparently be deployed tactically.

The roots of the new Star Wars turn-based strategy game are clearly evident, which is ultimately unsurprising, given that developers who previously worked on the XCOM games are involved. In terms of gameplay, it will apparently revolve around strategic positioning: finding cover and planning attacks are obviously two core elements. It's also clear that attacks have a chance of hitting; as with similar games in the genre, this is likely determined by the enemy's weapon choice, distance, or cover, among other factors.
Until now, it was unclear which timeline the game would take place in, but one of the leaked screenshots reads "Support Bo Katan," which could narrow the timeline down to the period between the Clone Wars and The Mandalorian series. That's ultimately pretty vague, but it's already clear that you'll encounter one or two familiar characters from the films and series.
According to a report, the images are said to be from the portfolio of an artist at Bit Reactor and depict the development status in 2023. Whether the Star Wars turn-based strategy game will ultimately look like this or has changed significantly in the meantime remains to be seen. Nevertheless, the screenshots point to a strategically complex game. It is still unclear for which platforms the new title from Respawn Entertainment and Bit Reactor will be released. Previous games from the Respawn Entertainment portfolio (Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor) were released for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. The platform "MP1st" also speculates that a release on Nintendo Switch 2 could be possible.
