In February, Pegasus Spiele the new family game Tucana Builders and the zombie children's game Zilence have been released. While Zilence is about finding the best path and vital items in the maze within a limited time, the puzzle game Tucana Builders, the independent successor to Trails of Tucana, focuses on connecting paths.
In the children's game Zilence by Sophia Wagner, two to four brave players aged six and over set out to collect vital items such as board games, a medipack or a walkman in the midst of a zombie apocalypse.
They start their flight from the roof of a skyscraper in the middle of the city. In each round, three of the twelve routes are activated. The players then have 20 seconds to look over the active routes, scan them for the objects they are looking for in this round and decide on the route they think is best. All three routes are then traveled with a pointer: whoever has chosen the respective route can now put down the objects found on it. A new round then begins until one person has found all twelve objects.
The particular challenge of Zilence lies in the busy city map, which changes every round thanks to six double-sided game board sections. This means that there are always new possible flight routes, which are not only of different lengths, but often also end in nowhere. It is usually not possible to scan all three routes in the short time, so players have to weigh up whether to play it safe and rely on a scouted flight path or to take a risk and take an untested route.
Laying island paths at Tucana Builders
Tucana Builders by Eilif Svensson and Kristian A. Østby is a family game and the independent successor to the flip & write game Trails of Tucana, which focused on building a network of paths to connect villages with the island's attractions. After several volcanic eruptions caused chaos and the island's animals are now scattered everywhere, up to five players aged eight and over return to the tropical archipelago in Tucana Builders to skillfully lay paths and lead the animals back to their villages.
All players have their own island map in front of them, on which they place a new path tile on each turn. Each game lasts two rounds, after each round there is a scoring process. In a round, the twelve terrain cards are revealed in random order. They indicate which type of terrain the new path tile must be placed on.
The aim of the players is to connect colorful huts with animals of the same color and joker toucans by cleverly placing the tiles in order to collect as many points as possible. If you want even more challenge and interaction with the other players after a few games, you can bring the bonus cards included into play. If you meet the conditions stated on them, e.g. connecting huts C and F, you get additional points.
Zilence is available at a RRP of 29,99 euros and Tucana Builders at a RRP of 34,99 euros in specialist stores and online.
