Board game publisher Go On Board has announced a new board game set in The Witcher universe. The crowdfunding page is already online.
Go On Board recently brought board games for Cyberpunk 2077 and Tekken into the development phase – the new Cyberpunk 2077 title generated nearly ten million US dollars via the crowdfunding platform Gamefound. The Tekken campaign will launch next. It's now clear: the sequel will also be a title focusing on a popular video game brand. The Witcher: Legacy is the name of the board game. And as the title suggests, it will be a concept with a clear focus on storytelling.
Adventure board game with Witcher story
According to the publisher, The Witcher: Legacy will be an adventure board game focused on storytelling. The concept is aimed at both solo players and cooperative groups of up to four players. Decisions are intended to have consequences that directly influence the gameplay. This idea is not new, but a core feature of so-called legacy board games.
According to Go On Board, the board game The Witcher: Legacy is being developed in cooperation with CD Projekt RED. The license holder will oversee the game—and will certainly ensure an accurate implementation. The story centers on witchers from the Wolf School who are searching for those responsible after an attack. The story unfolds over the course of several scenarios—inviting players to make "grave decisions" that both change and advance the unique story.
Players explore the lands of Kaedwen, battle monsters, and develop their characters. A strong role-playing element is to be expected given the source material, especially since Go On Board already states that players will be able to train their skills and gain experience over the course of the game. It will be a classic legacy game: players will constantly change the game and modify individual elements, according to Go On Board. The team behind the game is the same team that previously created The Witcher: Old World.
The campaign is expected to encompass over 30 hours of gameplay. If published as a book, the story would have around 700 pages of text. According to the publisher, the title has been in development for three and a half years.
