As Asmodee announces, a Pandemic game based on Star Wars: The Clone Wars will be released in early November. Players then save the galaxy as Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker, or Obi-Wan Kenobi. The board game comes from Z-Man Games, of course.

Asmodee and Z-Man Games announce Star Wars: The Clone Wars – A Pandemic System Board Game. Set in the time of the popular television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the game pits players on a quest to defend the Republic together as legendary Jedi. Based on Z-Man Games' cooperative Pandemic mechanic, players must work together to complete missions across the galaxy and stop the Separatists.

It's not the first use of a popular license for a Pandemic board game. Most recently, Asmodee and Z-Man Games had partnered with Activision Blizzard to launch a similar work, World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King. That was quite successful, albeit with minor weaknesses

The clone wars with Pandemic system

In Star Wars: The Clone Wars – A Pandemic System Board Game, players choose from seven Jedi, including Ahsoka Tano and Anakin Skywalker, each with their own unique Force abilities. In four epic scenarios, the Jedi must band together and defeat a member of the dark side like Count Dooku or General Grievous.

Each scenario can be completed using different Jedi powers, squad members, and objectives, according to the publishers, "giving each adventure great replay value."

“Star Wars: The Clone Wars is a powerful saga of heroes banding together to save the galaxy, and this game is no different. It's also the culmination of an amazing partnership between one of the largest franchises in the world and the premier cooperative board game system,” said Sophie Gravel, Head of Z-Man Games. “Our cooperative Pandemic system helps bring iconic Star Wars characters and stories to life - our Jedi must join forces to stand a chance against the never-ending waves of Separatist troops. Players will root for each playthrough as they fight for victory… and establish the balance of power.”

The playful framework and the embedding in the Star Wars world sound at least interesting: Players join the clone wars: You meet Star Wars: The Clone Wars characters like Rex, Padmé Amidala or R2-D2 while navigating through the galaxy Coruscant, Geonosis, Mandalore and more travels.

Of course, the use of the Force plays a role: players become Jedi, each equipped with their own special abilities to fight the Separatists. Heroes include Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, Mace Windu, Aayla Secura, and Luminara Unduli.

Enemies abound, and familiar ones: Count Dooku, Maul, General Grievous and Asajj Ventress threaten the galaxy in four thrilling adventures. "Achieve victory in each story by defeating the main villain," reads the game objective. The Clone Wars as a broad plot can be experienced on the home gaming table with a "galaxy-sized game board, illustrated maps and detailed miniatures," according to Asmodee. There are figures for Jedi, villains and swarms of battle droids and ships.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars - A board game with the Pandemic system is aimed at up to five players, with the option of playing alone in a solo mode. The board game is suitable for ages 14 and up.

The game will be released in Germany at the beginning of November and will be available in game stores and online. And there's even a trailer that gives a glimpse of the game board and figures.
