The publisher Mythic Games is apparently still in financial difficulties. There have been several controversies surrounding the company.
The French newspaper Le "Parisien" has reported on the liquidation of a French subsidiary of Mythic Games, whose task is to make payments to employees there. According to the newspaper, the decision was already made by Mythic Games on October 1st. Leonidas Vesperini, one of the co-founders of the publishing house, will act as administrator and wind up the subsidiary.
Mythic Games: CMON already helped
The publisher, founded in 2015, was in existence for almost ten years and was able to raise respectable sums in crowdfunding projects with games such as Darkest Dungeon: The Board Game, Super Fantasy Brawl and 6: Siege - The Board Game. Ultimately, however, it was precisely these campaigns - in addition to the effects of the corona pandemic - that led to problems.
Production delays and, above all, poor financial management led to a situation of difficulties. It was only at the beginning of the year that it was announced that the Miniature expert CMON bought some brands from Mythic Games “Hel: The Last Saga” and “Anastyr”. This should enable both games to go into production in the first place.
However, Mythic Games could not be saved completely, as the liquidation of the French subsidiary of the Luxembourg publisher shows. The publisher was confronted with numerous controversies: legal problems with the licensing fees for “Time of Legend: Joan of Arc”, quality defects for Super Fantasy Brawl, production problems for Darkest Dungeon: The Board Game, a board game based on a popular video game. The associated Kickstartercampaign generated well over five million US dollars, but after two years demanded Mythic Games additional funds from the crowdfunding supporters.
Ultimately, Mythic Games stood for exactly that in the scene: problems.
The publisher was not able to control all of the factors itself, as the Corona pandemic also took its toll on the creators. The challenges did not become any less afterward, and the publisher was unable to shake off its bad image.
