Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak takes place after the heroic defense of the village of Kamura in Monster Hunter Rise. News of the village's survival inspires brave knight Fiorayne to set off from the distant kingdom to seek help. Hunters brave enough to answer the call make their way to the Port of Elgado Outpost. This research center and command post are tasked with stopping the threat to the kingdom.
At the top of the target list are powerful creatures inspired by western horror stories known as the Three Lords. This roster includes the combined elemental powerhouse Garangolm, the sinister Fanged Wyvern Lunagaron, and the vampiric Elder Dragon Malzeno. In addition to these nightmarish foes, there are new monster variants and returning fan favorites, including Scorned Magnamalo, Espinas, and Shagaru Magala, all appearing to challenge the hunters on the Master Rank additional quest difficulty.

To meet these sinister forces head-on, hunters arriving at Elgado Outpost must find new ways to fight. While the village of Kamura is known for its unique Wirebug techniques, including Silkbind attacks and Wyvern riding, hunters summoned to the kingdom learn new ones Switch-Abilities for all 14 weapons, enabling a variety of new weapon actions.
In addition, they can now bring two different Switch abilities that can be used while hunting with the new "Switch Skill Swap”. The added flexibility in selecting the best skills for each situation allows a skilled hunter to overcome almost any obstacle. If the hunters are attacked while they are... Switch Performing Skill Swap, they can also dodge in any direction to avoid danger or reposition themselves for another attack.
Exploring the behavior of the three lords takes you across the kingdom to exciting new and reimagined locations, including the newly revealed citadel and the returning jungle. The Citadel features snow-capped peaks that drop into lush forests teeming with new endemic life forms. At the center of this vast region is a long-abandoned fortress that serves as a bulwark to the monsters it was designed to keep out. A return from the second generation of Monster Hunter titles, the jungle features a warm climate with abundant rainfall, making it a paradise for the monsters and plants that call it home.
Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak also offers game fans new ways to befriend the game's charming characters through new follower quests. These single player hunts allow you to take on and complete quests with your favorite characters. Each follower has their own specialization and can even help the game fans by restoring their health, setting traps and even riding monsters to turn the tide of battle. Elgado Outpost members such as Fiorayne, Luchika, Jae, Admiral Galleus, and Master Arlow are now available to follow, as are Kamura Village members such as Hinoa and Minoto. As the story progresses, more followers will be unlocked and there are even exclusive rewards for completing follower quests.
