The recently announced partnership between CMON and Gamegenic is supported by a small marketing measure: With the launch of the Kickstarter campaign for Massive Darkness 2: Hellscape, backers can receive an exclusive card - provided they use the accessories offered by Gamegenic parallel to the crowdfunding.
On August 4th, the successor to Massive Darkness will start swarm financing. As soon as the campaigns start, licensed accessories for Massive Darkness 2: Hellscape will be available via Kickstarter due to the new partnership between CMON and Gamegenic.
Gamegenic donated an exclusive card
To help motivated players, Gamegenic supports the purchase of accessories with an exclusive card for Massive Darkness 2: Hellscape. The “Ingenious shield” gives players a bit of defense - even when carrying a two-handed weapon.
A goodie, an attention from the marketing department, a small incentive - the card doesn't want to be much more. The playful effects are minor, there was similar equipment in the predecessor. The feedback from the players is surprisingly calm: Many welcome the move, others are indifferent - only a few criticize the fact that a “Kickstarter exclusive” for a game is tied to the purchase of accessories. So if you want the card, you have to hit Gamegenic too.
For CMON and Gamegenic, the partnership and the “joint” Kickstarter campaign could ideally result in a win-win situation: If you support Massive Darkness 2: Hellscape and do not want to do without accessories that are specifically designed for the game, you can turn to Gamegenic. It is not improbable. Players who buy high-priced board games in particular or support them via Kickstarter will only rarely do without protecting the expensive item from smudges. The bonus card now offers a small, but at least additional, incentive to think about purchasing equipment during the Kickstarter campaign.
The model could catch on. It can be assumed that the partnership between CMON and Gamegenic will not remain the only one for the Asmodee subsidiary.
