The English version of the title is already available for pre-order - at the same time, the prices have also been announced. And they are quite expensive. Bioware's Mass Effect series is undoubtedly one of the best action role-playing games that the genre has to offer. This is a rare pleasure compared to other successful gaming brands. Three games have been released in the main series since 2007, and Mass Effect: Andromeda, a spin-off that took place after the conclusion of the Reaper trilogy, was added. By comparison, Ubisoft has exploited the equally hugely popular Assassin's Creed series much more heavily in the same period - Assassin's Creed Shadows, part 14, will be released in November. Fans of Bioware's space role-playing series are accordingly delighted when a new game is released. This also applies to the announced board game.

The author Eric M. Lang, who has previously worked on Blood Rage, Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City and Game of Thrones - The Card Game, is responsible for the new Mass Effect board game. The creative mind has an impressive history, with many high-profile titles coming from his pen, but often also titles that publishers extend with extra content. This is beneficial to the lifespan of a board game, but at the same time it is expensive for fans, as the number of new releases is usually high. For the base game – the actual board game – the makers use the now popular concept of a campaign ring binder, which replaces the game board. Lots of miniatures, in fact. And those are exactly the ones that cost money.
While the basic game has a market price of around 49 euros, you have to pay almost 300 euros for the complete package of minifigures. Individual purchases would be even more expensive. At least buying them is not compulsory, because the campaign board game for Mass Effect can also be played in the normal version, but then with just six miniatures and a lot of tokens to represent the opposing units. The high prices for miniatures can be criticized, but the choice in Mass Effect: The Board Game - Priority: Hagalaz is quite fair. Real fans of the video game series will probably not hesitate and will dig deep into their pockets to secure the resin figures.
In addition, you no longer have to see the miniatures as mere accessories to a board game, because a hobby of "painting" has developed around them, with its own scene. There, people enjoy detailed figures that are then effectively decorated in long painting sessions.
