Mario Kart is a sales success, that's no secret and no big surprise: Nintendo was able to sell over 38 million copies of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe worldwide, but these are the numbers from last autumn and thus those from before the Christmas business.
Mario Kart: Years of Waiting
It's been eight years since Nintendo released a main title for Mario Kart: Mario Kart 8 was released back then. The game was released in 2014 for Wii U and later as a deluxe version for Nintendo Switch developed. Now analyst Serkan Toto has spread the rumor that Mario Kart 9 is already “in active development”. Accordingly, the game should come with a new twist and possibly be teased this year. Last year there were rumors that a new offshoot from the main Mario Kart series had been in development for three years - with a possible release in 2022.
Official information from Nintendo about Mario Kart 9 is not yet available, so the rumor should be treated with caution. Because Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still selling well at the moment, a new part could not appear for a few years.
However, it is also possible that Nintendo will use the brand's milestone birthday to make a surprising announcement: The first part, Super Mario Kart, was released in 1992, then for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The 30th anniversary of the racing game series would at least be a good occasion for a present to the fans - the game was released on August 27, 1992 in Japan, on September 1 in North America and on January 21, 1993 in Europe.
