Games, cosplay, anime, manga and Asian pop culture: This is what MAG in Erfurt, which celebrated its debut just two years ago, stands for. Due to the coronavirus situation and the associated ban on major events, the organizers - like many event organizers - had to rethink. Now a purely digital format is also used for the MAG in Erfurt. The "interactive multiplayer event" will take place from October 2nd to 4th, then with a focus on online offers as well as some on-site events within the limits of what is allowed.
Cosplay, anime, manga and Asian pop culture sounds like event entertainment you can touch. In normal times it would be too. Only times are not normal. The organizers of MAG Erfurt, a still young convention, are also troubled by the corona crisis. Creativity was needed, maybe also courage. In the end, the organizers opted for the fair, albeit in a completely different form.
"MAG lends itself as a digital platform"
Because major events are not allowed to take place until October 31 due to the corona pandemic, the event organizers for MAG 2020 had to completely rethink the concept. Although trade fairs, exhibitions and events are allowed on a smaller scale, events with several thousand visitors are not. Even if the MAG in Erfurt is still one of the smaller conventions: With around 13.000 visitors last year the event falls under the prohibition regulation.
"For this reason, we have set up a completely new digital concept together with our partner, Super Crowd Entertainment GmbH from Hamburg," says the trade fair manager Michael Kynast. In his opinion, MAG is more suitable than ever as a digital platform. "At the same time, we are planning a reduced live offer on site that can be flexibly adapted to the requirements for trade fairs that apply at the beginning of October". So that means: MAG will be on two tracks in 2020.
Dre's focus is still clearly on online content. "In order to allow the MAG to take place despite all the adversities and not to disappoint the community, we in the team have set a major goal: to prepare the MAG as a digital interactive multiplayer event", reports Wolf Lang, Managing Director of Super Crowd Entertainment GmbH. “The online world of MAG 2020 will be waiting for visitors with many surprises. They can research and discover the MAG online with their own avatar, among other things. "
MAG 2020 on the first weekend in October
On the first weekend in October, from October 2nd to 4th, MAG will take place as a live event and as an online community event by fans for fans over three days. Exhibitors will present their products at virtual exhibition stands. The visitor can exchange ideas with the exhibitors online and in this way get in touch despite Corona restrictions. In addition, visitors can walk through the digital trade fair and watch streaming shows. There is also the possibility of exchanging information - of course via chat.
Via livestream, including from the Erfurt trade fair, there will be a varied and exciting live program for all gamers, influencers and newcomers. Exclusive premieres are also presented. The Fangress will return with numerous workshops, panels and Q & As. Part of the stage program will take place in the traditional way in the Erfurt exhibition center, confirms Kynast. The organizers want to publish a first trailer shortly.
Anyone who has already bought tickets can return the tickets if they decide not to visit Erfurt. The ticket price will be reimbursed, according to Antje Kreuger, project manager at Messe Erfurt GmbH. Alternatively, fans can use their tickets for MAG 2021. “We are working flat out on a solution for visitor tickets that have already been purchased. We will publish details of the reversal shortly,” announces Kreuger.
