As the French publisher Asmodee Digital has announced, the adventure card game for Lord of the Rings will be released on August 29 for PC Steam, Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4 and Xbox One. The title will also be available to subscribers as part of Xbox Game Pass.

The new adventure card game (originally: Living Card Game) is based on the fantasy worlds of JRR Tolkien and offers adventure for solo players and in a cooperative mode. Developed by Fantasy Flight Interactive, The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game relies on card game mechanics combined with the presentation of a backstory.

Early access phase used for improvements

The game aims to combine "a strong narrative experience" with "deeply strategic challenges designed to test players' tactical skills. The community feedback the developers received during Early Access has been instrumental in improving the gameplay experience: "Thanks to community feedback during Early Access, 'The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game' features a polished UI, tutorial and refined gameplay mechanics," reads the official release date announcement.

The game is based on Tolkien's popular fantasy universe, as well as the card game from which it was inspired. It should offer fans an impressive and challenging Middle-earth experience. With a customizable deck of 30 cards, players are supposed to lead a squad of three heroes against Sauron's minions onto the battlefield.

The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game is coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 29, Nintendo Switch and PC Steam on August 4th. The game is also part of Xbox Game Pass along with other Asmodee Digital titles such as Munchkin and Pandemic.
