The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the sequel to Breath of the Wild, tops Japanese magazine Famitsu's Most Wanted list. The game was able to position itself ahead of Final Fantasy 16.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom casts its long shadow. There is already a little hype about the successor to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This is currently reflected in the charts on the Famitsu site.
Tears of the Kingdom available for pre-order
“Most wanted” lists show which game titles are currently particularly popular with fans. There are usually no real surprises; the top ranks largely occupy Triple-A titles. This is currently no different at Famitsu. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is at the top there - fans are dying to see the successor to the successful game Nintendo Switch to finally be able to play. You actually don't have to wait long anymore. The release is scheduled for May 12, 2023. You can already pre-order the game.
Still, the approaching release date shows that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is picking up some momentum. The title was able to displace the previous leader Final Fantasy 16 for Playstation 5. In any case, it's a tight race between the two game titles - sometimes Final Fantasy is ahead, a week later it's Zelda. Fans long for both video games. In both cases the wait was long enough.
There are hardly any surprises on the ranks of the Famitsu charts. Pokemon Crimson and Crimson retained their third spots, while Dragon Quest Treasures and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth have since climbed to fourth and fifth respectively.
Somewhat surprising, at least for the western market, is the holder of the sixth chart rank: The PS4 version of Witch on the Holy Night - an adaptation of a Japanese visual novel - is ahead of Fire Emblem Engage.
Behind it is the Playstation 5 version of the remake of Resident Evil 4; the game has made it back into the top ten. Next up is Sonic Frontiers, which was recently released - but was pre-release at the time of writing. Octopath Traveler 2 rounds out the leaderboard.
