WWE 2K22 has been released - and with it the launch of the brand reboot. How good is WWE 2k22? Apparently better than the direct predecessors. The developers at Visual Concepts and Publisher 2K could have gotten off to a worse start.

The ring bells are ringing: It's Launch Day! Wrestling fans have had to wait a long time for a new WWe 2k game, now the 2022 version is officially available. What publisher 2K calls “the greatest video game in WWE history” enters the ring with cover superstar Rey Mysterio, a major overhaul of engine and gameplay, new controls, new graphics and new game modes.

WWE 2K22: The series is restarted

The latest installment in the WWE video game series developed by Visual Concepts is available now for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam.

The game's cover features Rey Mysterio, who is celebrating his 20th anniversary as a WWE Superstar. The game has been completely overhauled with a new game engine, new gameplay, the most stunning WWE 2K graphics to date, intuitive controls, multiple new game modes, an immersive presentation and a variety of camera angles. WWE 2K22's diverse soundtrack was curated by Executive Soundtrack Producer Machine Gun Kelly, who will be included as a playable character in a downloadable content pack after the game's release.

"The past two years have been marked by the focus and passion of our incredible team at Visual Concepts, who have worked hard to deliver the WWE experience fans have been asking for," said Greg Thomas, President of Visual Concepts. “WWE 2K22 and all of its achievements are the result of the energy and hard work of this team who have created a great game with a rich heritage. I am extremely proud of all that we have accomplished with this release, which is another step towards a bright future for the WWE 2K franchise."

The first reviews are good to very good - so the developers have definitely succeeded in making a comeback with the reboot of the wrestling series. on Metacritic are already the first ratings before, they are currently cavorting in the range of a 70s or 80s rating on the hundreds scale. The picture is mixed among the fans: some sing praises, others find points of criticism. For developers and publishers, the mixed mood is at least an indication that not everything went wrong. At the same time, it means: For fans, there is apparently no way around getting into the virtual ring themselves and convincing themselves of the quality of the wrestling video game.

One thing can be said at the moment: With WWE 2K22, the developers and publishers have laid a solid foundation to help the series regain its former glory in the years to come. In any case, the makers don't have to mothball the series again in view of what is on offer.
