At the international game days in Essen, the SPIEL, Iello already had initial information about a spin-off version of King of Tokyo in his luggage. Now the publisher has released further details and first artwork for the monsters. The King of Tokyo - Dark Edition will appear once in 2020-
The special edition for King of Tokyo should really be special, especially because this dark spin-off of the fast dice game will only be printed once and will be available next year. The English version should be available in March 2020, according to Romain Francois von Iello on the release date.
Dark variant with new mechanics
The King of Tokyo - Dark Edition is based on the basic game, which has been available since 2011 and has been successively expanded to include new mini-content. The main focus was on new monsters with which players could go into battle.
The board game is not only visually revised for the Dark Edition, but also comes up with some new mechanics that are supposed to provide a slightly different gaming experience. The tokens in particular have been drilled open: instead of cardboard tablets, players receive 3D-modeled game pieces. For example, the King of Tokyo - Dark Edition contains green lightning bolts made of plastic, which act as energy.
Iello sees the gloomy spin-off version as a thank you to the fans: the collector's version will be produced once in the coming year and will therefore only be available due to a limited contingent. Iello has now introduced the first two monsters of the King of Tokyo - Dark Edition: "Gigazaur" and "The King".
"The King of Tokyo - Dark Edition is a special edition for all fans of the board game," says Romain Francois from Iello. "We want to say thank you to the players who have supported King of Tokyo over the years."
In the coming months, Iello plans to gradually publish more details about the King of Tokyo - Dark Edition - primarily on the company's social media channels.
