It's official: the nominations for the game of the year, the children's game of the year and the expert game of the year for the 2016 vintage have been confirmed. This award ceremony is one of the highlights of the year for the board game world. There were no big surprises in the selection of the potential award winners; the Game of the Year jury was guided by the favorites that have already been mentioned in various board game blogs. But enough of the words: here they come, the nominees for the award ceremony on June 20 in Hamburg and July 18 in Berlin.
The nominees for the game of the year 2016
For the Game of the Year 2016 award, the board games are Codenames from Heidelberger Spieleverlag, Imhotep from the publisher KOSMOS and Karuba from HABA were chosen by the jury. All three board games would be worthy award winners and impress with their proven but also innovative game mechanisms. I already have all the board game titles in my personal favorites list below blog posts described for you. For me the fight will end up between games Karuba and Imhotep decided even if codenames is an excellent board game, for me it is the weakest title in terms of play - maybe also because I'm not a particularly big fan of puzzle games. That I codenames I tried it out with a lot of fun anyway, so it is to be seen as a clear quality feature. In any case, I am curious to which nominee the jury will ultimately award the prize for the game of the year 2016.

The nominees for the 2016 Kennerspiel des Jahres
TIME Stories, a mixture of fantasy board game, role-playing game and sci-fi, was one of my favorites and also made it onto the final list of nominees for the 2016 Connoisseur Game of the Year. Great, because it would have been a shame if this exciting game mechanism with wonderfully presented adventures had remained unnoticed. Other board games that could win the prize for the 2016 Connoisseur Game of the Year on July 18th in Berlin include Isle of Skye from Lookout Spiele and Pandemic Legacy - Season 1 from Z-Man Games, which is published in this country by Asmodee Germany is expelled. Each of these board games deserves the price, even if Pandemic Legacy - Season 1 Somehow surprisingly one of the nominees for me. Not because it wasn't good enough, but probably on the contrary: I had Pandemic legacy whether its magnificence is simply not on the screen. Or I assumed that after the nomination by Pandemic in 2009 the new edition of an epidemic game would not be nominated again. Fortunately, I was wrong.

It is well known that children's games do not need any prizes so that the youngsters can have fun with them. Nevertheless, the title Children's Game of the Year raises the quality of one child-friendly board game clearly again. The following three board games have been nominated for the award of the Children's Game of the Year 2016 award on June 20 in Hamburg: Mmm !, Leo has to go to the hairdresser and Stone Age Junior. In particular Mmmm! I can only praise it at this point, because this game shows how well you can design a game concept suitable for children in such a way that a board game is not only fun for children with one another, but also knows how to inspire whole families.
But also Leo has to go to the hairdresser and Stone Age Jr Recommended titles that should not be underestimated in view of the award ceremony for the children's game of the year 2016. But one thing can definitely be said: whether mammoth, mouse or lion - one of these animals will definitely win.
