The board game boom continues, and the number of playful projects in the crowdfunding sector will not decrease. It is already clear that some high-profile board games are to be implemented via “crowd financing”, while other titles are only slightly less known than their mere announcement. Five board games coming in 2021 Kickstarter in the race for financing, we present in the following article.
Thematically, the makers are once again making full use of this year: Up Kickstarter Board games with completely different settings go live: world games, trading and building games, fantasy, horror, fun, even sports. So for fans, the question is not whether you can find a board game that suits your interests, but rather: How much do you want to spend in 2021?
Dawn on Titan

The Swedish development studio Ion Game Design is expected to start crowdfunding in FebruaryCampaign for the board game Dawn on Titan start. In a not so distant future, players will explore the moons of Saturn, but are not alone. The title is aimed at two to four players and is designed as a fast space wargame with asymmetrical victory conditions.
Why could that be good? Not just because of the topic, space board games are a dime a dozen. But: Most of the time, space games are material battles that get out of hand over time. With the combination of tactical demands, reduction to essential elements, short playing time and asymmetrical gameplay, Dawn of Titan could set itself a niche that is currently hardly served.
In Dawn on Titan the players fight against each other and always against their own good ideas: Because there are always several paths to victory, it will presumably not only depend on your own tactical decisions whether you can win a game, but also on the better or worse ones Opponent's ideas. The board game relies on modular elements to increase replayability. And Dawn on Titan does something else differently than most space board games: It is suitable for the entire family and appeals to children aged eight and over.
This year, Dawn on Titan will not be the only Ion Game Design title to be financed via Kickstarter: The board game Stationfall, a dice-driven intrigue game, will also be crowdfunded, but not until autumn 2021.
Boogeyman: The Board Game

The boogeyman returns, this time as a board game. The author Antonio Ferrara, who founded Escape Game Studios in 2019, is responsible for the implementation. As a member of the horror authors' association, Ferrara is also familiar with the rock solid theme of this horror board game all about the black man.
The title is aimed at up to seven players and is played cooperatively and competitively: The children not only have to escape the boogeyman, but also the psychopathic babysitter Jennifer. The board game also includes a solo version. The figure of the mythical frightener is well chosen: the boogeyman has no defined appearance and can therefore also be perfectly implemented as a board game horror.
Antonio Ferrara previously worked on the Stay Away and Last Friday games. In particular, the latter title, which is based on the classic slasher horror, was thematically convincing. If Ferrara manages to playfully make Boogeyman more profound than Last Friday, nothing stands in the way of the next horror board game evening. The project is to be financed as crowdfunding via Kickstarter.
The Runelords: Board Games

In January, The Runelords, a hex field strategy game, will start its financing phase. The Skirmish board game is aimed at up to four players, but thanks to cardboard AI it can also be played in a solo mode. The title combines hex tactics and deck building: Players create their combat deck in order to be able to unleash various strategic combos on the board.
The Runelords is themed in a medieval setting, in which different classes, each with different skills, can be drawn into battle by the players. Each of the Runelords has an individual deck of cards. The replay value is also supported by a modular game board, which consists of various double-sided game board parts and can therefore also be adapted to the "epicness" of the desired battle in terms of size.
The makers of Red Djinn Productions promise challenges and different victory conditions depending on the adventure. the Crowdfunding campaign for the Hexfeld board game The Runelords starts on January 19th.
Soul Raiders

Soul Raiders starts also this year into crowdfunding on Kickstarter. The board game is based on the ongoing trend of story-based titles and is aimed at up to four players; the board game can optionally also be played as a solo version. The cooperative game idea comes from the author Marc André, the creator of games like Splendor or Majesty.
Set in a classic fantasy setting, players form a squad of heroes who must then fight their way through a "story deck". Chapter by chapter, the players experience adventures together, follow a main task and solve a fixed minimum number of optional side quests that serve the character progression and also reveal further details about the story.
At the center of the game is an epic fantasy story told through a non-linear system. Games act in parallel, make decisions, but act under time pressure. A game should take around one to two hours. The finished version is said to contain more than 1.000 cards, with artists such as Guillaume Tavernier (De Architecturart) or Magali Villeneuve (Magic The Gathering) responsible for the illustrations.
Quests and Canons

Short Hop Games brings a strategic sandbox board game with a fantasy setting to the Kickstarter-Platform. Up to six players are sent on basically competitive adventures on the high seas; optionally, Quests and Cannons, the name of the board game, can also be played as a solo version.
The focus is on a modular, magical sea made up of tiles. Players explore islands, discover map clues, complete quests and pimp their battle boat in order to be able to survive against the competition in battle.
Quests and Cannons should be strategic and with a focus on flexible tactical actions. What awaits the players on the individual squares of the sea only gradually becomes visible. There should be nine playable characters that can then be used in the various modes - solo, competitive, cooperative and team.
For Quests and Cannons, the makers of Short Hop Games have developed their own fantasy world, in which the ultimate goal is to develop the greatest wealth for yourself and your kingdom and thus win the game. Quests and Cannons should also be via Crowdfunding via Kickstarter financed.
