Destiny 2 heralds the third year with the new extension Shadowkeep, a fortress of shadows in this country. At the same time, the eighth season - the season of the immortal - starts in Destiny 2 with the release of the expansion. And it gets even better: Destiny should gain many new players, because the main game will be switched to a free-2-play variant. New Light will be available for free on PC, PS1 and Xbox One on October 4st. Then Destiny 2: Shadowkeep will also appear and bring many innovations.

With the switch to free-to-play, it doesn't take much to get started with Destiny 2: Shadowkeep - or back in: The only requirement for the new expansion is the main game and it will be available completely free of charge from October 1st for PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4. Previous expansions or DLCs are not required to play Shadowkeep. After the separation from Activition, Bungie Destiny 2 also publishes on its own – then via Steam.

Reboot could make Destiny 2 the best free-2-play game out there

If you haven't played Destiny 2 yet, you'll start at the very beginning and are likely to start the game at the perfect time. The switch to Free-2-Play not only makes content from the base game available in the free version, but also the first two DLCs "Curse of Osiris" and "War Spirit".
Bungie is making all content from year one playable for free, but is giving F2P players some additional content, including the Armor 2.0 armor system, the new finishing moves, the Festival of the Lost event, and world patrols including the new moon . Especially nice: 17 strikes are available in the free "New Light" version.
If you already own the main game of Destiny 2 as a disc version and have pre-ordered Shadowkeep, you should ideally reinstall the game once - in the digital version including the expansion. At the moment there seem to be occasional problems when players try to use the disc version as a basis for the expansion. Bungie has not officially confirmed this.

Everything is not included in the free main game for Destiny 2, the two big expansions are missing. Owners of Destiny 2: Forsaken get the annual pass for free - that should have been the case since September 17th.
With the start of "New Light", the paid content includes in particular:
  • Premium rewards of the seasons
  • Story campaign from both major expansions
  • Raids from Forsaken, Shadowkeep and the annual pass
  • New content like the Vex Invasion
  • New quests for exotic weapons
  • High level nightmare hunts and raid challenges

If you play the free version of Destiny 2, you can also earn seasonal rewards. With the release of Destiny 2: Shadowkeep, Season 8 starts, as is well known, where F2P players can get some rewards. To get in the mood for the brand new content, the free version also includes the introductory mission to the new Shadowkeep expansion.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep is getting big

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep will be a real chunk of content, not as extensive as Forsaken, but bigger than the first two DLCs. According to Luke Smith, the size of the new expansion should be about the same as "The Iron Lords" from the first part.

Shadowkeep drives the story of Eris Morn forward: The crowd connoisseur experiences nightmares and thus calls forces on the plan that haunt the moon. This is already noticeable in the external appearance of the celestial body - green ravines tear open the surface everywhere and the red fortress that gives it its name appears. The darkness is here - and more present and dangerous than ever before.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep also brings a lot of new challenges, including the one new raid "Garden of Salvation", in which six players visit the black garden with the location that is already known from the first Destiny. The alternate reality of the Vex is said to be much prettier and will likely be one of the focal points of the expansion for many players. Also new is a Dungeon for a trio of players.

Also geared towards a squad of three players are the Nightmare Hunts, intended to entertain in the endgame of Destiny 2: Shadowkeep. In three different levels of difficulty, each with its own modifications, it's all about rewards. In this mode, there is a matchmaking system at the two lower levels, if you want to play "Legend", you have to prepare a team. There will also be a subdivision for the Nightfall Strikes: Adept (LL 750), Hero (LL 920), Legend (LL 950) and Master with a recommended light level of 980.

A must for fans are new items and many of them come with the new expansion to Destiny 2: More, particularly rare, exotic weapons can be earned - the "yellow items" are used primarily as a motivating factor for veterans. The "Leviathan's Breath" bow is one of the two already known exotic weapons from Destiny 2: Shadowkeep; the other is the Eriannas' Vow sniper pistol. At the same time, the weapon mods were also adjusted, which are no longer consumable.
Not only offensively, players can strengthen themselves with Shadowkeep. Bungie also has some innovations in the defensive area. With the completely redesigned Armor 2.0 armor system - which Free-2-Play players can also use - more combination options and individual configurations should find their way into the game. With this, Bungie will further increase the role-play factor of Destiny 2.
The launch trailer for Destiny 2: Shadowkeep whets the appetite for publication.

Also exciting are the season-dependent artifacts, new armor that appeared in the first part of Destiny, but have now been conceptually revised: With each season, players get a new artifact with new special abilities to level up.

Good prospects for October and November

Those who want to get very close to the enemy will be happy to practice the nine finishing moves that are introduced into the game with Destiny 2: Shadowkeep. Enemies with little life energy can be hit particularly spectacularly on the virtual pines with the help of the attacks: For successful moves there are then bonuses, depending on the chosen orientation - such as energy for super attacks, life energy or ammunition.

However, Bungie has made slight changes to PvP. Some maps have been removed from matchmaking and the modes have been adapted. A new ranking system with fame ranks could be particularly interesting because the skill rating has a high influence on the awarding of points.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep costs 34,99 euros in the standard version and 59,99 euros in the deluxe version. There will also be a Collector's Edition: at a proud price of 159,99 euros. Without a game, the collector's item costs 94,99 euros. Those who still had hope will be disappointed: The collector's edition is already sold out at Bungie - perhaps because physical goodies always attract fans particularly well.
