Surprisingly, Nintendo has officially announced the next part of the Zelda series. With Hyrule Warriors: Time of Devastation, a new action role-playing game is waiting for fans of Link, Zelda and Co. But it gets even better: Players no longer have to wait long. The Japanese company has dated the release of Hyrule Warriors for Nintendo Switch on November 20th.

There are days when the reports roll over themselves: A leak on Microsoft's Xbox Series is making the rounds, the Redmond-based company feel pressured Xbox Series S to be officially confirmed - and Nintendo has also published an announcement that nobody would have expected as surprising. With Hyrule Warriors: Time of Devastation, the next part of the Zelda series will be available for Nintendo Switch in just under two months.

Time of Desolation takes place 100 years before Breath of the Wild

Hyrule Warriors: Time of Desolation tells the story of what happened before The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This is not surprising, after all, information about the reasons for the deep darkness in Zelda: Breath of the Wild is not available or at most sparse. Memories of the disaster pop up every now and then, but the rest remains a mystery - until November 20th.

It did not stop with naming the release date. Nintendo presents information on how the new title came about. A corresponding video can be seen on Nintendo's official German-language YouTube channel:

Eiji Aonuma, producer of The Legend of Zelda, and Yosuke Hayashi, producer of the Hyrule Warriors series by Koei Tecmo Games, talk in the video about the creation of the new action role-playing game Hyrule Warriors: Time of Devastation and present the first trailer for Game.

Nintendo confirms what is obvious: Hyrule Warriors is heavily inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but not just visually. The heroes of the adventure are familiar faces, including Link and Zelda. There are also other characters, such as the four warriors who can be played for the first time in the Hyrule Warriors series.

The action-packed experience should be familiar to all fans of Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors: At well-known locations of Hyrule, which they are now getting to know for the first time before their destruction, players plunge into battles against hordes of opponents. The game is fast-paced and requires strategic skill. The focus is on linking combos and on the well-timed use of special maneuvers.

The action in Hyrule Warriors: Time of Desolation is part of a storyline. Players immerse themselves in a backstory that depicts the events, context, and drama of the Great Devastation. In addition, players have to solve tricky puzzles, unlock weapons and skills, process collected materials or go shopping in shops.

In 2014 the first offshoot of “Hyrule Warriors” appeared, back then for Wii U. Four years later, the brand made the leap to the Nintendo Switch. Where the characters and the plot are similar, the gameplay is significantly faster than the more leisurely action role-playing game.

Hyrule Warriors: Time of Desolation is coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch. And if you pre-order Hyrule Warriors: Time of Devastation in the Nintendo eShop, you will receive a bonus weapon for Link with the Fortune Trowel. The game will be released on November 20, 2020.
