Good news for those who missed the horror action game Resident Evil 2 from 1998: The reinterpretation of the horror classic is now available in stores and as a digital download.
Like before, only better
The retelling of the survival horror video game that was considered a masterpiece in the '90s has been completely re-engineered using Capcom's proprietary "RE Engine" to enrich the game with new graphics, immersive sound, a new perspective and modernized controls.
The re-release enables a frightening journey through the outbreak in Raccoon City, in the role of two of the series’s most beloved characters.
Originally released for PlayStation in 1998, Resident Evil 2 is now one of the most revered titles in the Resident Evil franchise. The original game is considered a prototype for the survival horror game genre and has sold more than 85 million copies worldwide to date.
In the video game Resident Evil 2, players slip into the roles of the young police officer Leon S. Kennedy and the student Claire Redfield, who investigate mysterious incidents on their way to Raccoon City, but then find themselves in the middle of a zombie nightmare. Their task: survive!
When put together, their respective experiences create a shocking story that tells of the unscrupulous activities of the Umbrella Corporation that brought chaos, zombies and mutated horror monsters to Raccoon City.
If players finish Leon and Claire's campaigns, they can unlock additional game modes that allow an alternative view of the events in Raccoon City: For example, players in 4th Survivor and Tofu modes can see the horror from the perspective of the Umbrella Corporation's operations Experience HUNK or a piece of tofu with a knife. If players decide to start the adventures of Leon and Claire again after playing them through, they will be rewarded with an even more challenging version of the main campaign, which offers even deeper story elements and content. In addition, alternative costumes for Leon and Claire can be activated and purchased.
In addition to the Standard Edition of Resident Evil 2, the Deluxe Edition includes the full game as well as the extra downloadable DLC pack, five character costumes (two for Leon and three for Claire), the Albert Model weapon: Samurai Edge and the retro soundtrack that players can optionally activate. Standard editions with 3D covers are also available from selected retail partners.
The additional content “The Ghost Survivors” will also be available as a free download for Resident Evil 2 shortly. This content deals with “what if ...” scenarios involving various victims of the Raccoon City outbreak and shows what would have happened had they survived the events of the main game. This is how time can be turned back a little to challenge the fate that awaits a USS agent, the mayor's daughter and the owner of the gun shop.
Resident Evil 2 is available in stores and as a digital download for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
