Modiphius Entertainment has announced Homeworld Fleet Command, a board game based on the Gearbox Entertainment video game. The strategic title for up to four players revolves around miniatures and a campaign.

British publisher Modiphius Entertainment, a tabletop publisher and developer, has introduced Homeworld Fleet Command, a new miniature board game set in Gearbox Entertainment's Homeworld universe. The game puts board game admirals in command of the Kushan or Taiidan fleets, fighting in epic battles where victory or death is at stake.

Homeworld on the board game table

The game has been developed in secret by Nick Fallon (among others: Airfix Battles, Kung Fu Panda and Warning! Cthulhu Skirmish) and Modiphius CCO Chris Birch. Now the publisher has made the information public - Modiphius Entertainment has cleverly used the attention to video games around Gamescom 2022.

Inspired by the mechanics of Airfix Battles, Homeworld Fleet Command promises easy entry, fast gameplay, and massive battles between squadrons of fighters, corvettes, frigates, destroyers, and fleet-crushing capital ships.

Modiphius Entertainment plans to crowdfund Homeworld Fleet Command. The campaign is scheduled to start in the second half of 2022. According to the publisher, backers can expect to receive the base game and the expansion, which offer new ship models, campaign games, ship upgrades, new game mechanics and much more.

"Homeworld was one of those incredibly memorable moments in the video game world, with huge, mind-blowing starship battles and an epic storyline," said Chris Birch, CCO and founder of Modiphius Entertainment, of the board game template. He's always wanted to bring that kind of feel to the table, but in a way that feels satisfying - and doesn't take days.

Gearbox also sees the British publisher as the perfect partner for implementation: "Modiphius' initial pitch was simple and compelling - massive fleet battles that can be played in an hour, all themed around Homeworld," said Sean Haran, Chief Business Gearbox Entertainment officers. “The entire team's love and enthusiasm for the franchise and this game was contagious, so the decision to work with Modiphius on it was an easy one. We are proud and excited to introduce Homeworld Fleet Command to the world and look forward to revealing more in the coming months.”

In terms of content, the board game will include a ten-part campaign. The core of the game are also the 101 miniatures of the basic game and the additional 100 miniatures of the expansion. A highlight: You will be able to use several copies of the board game together to fight even bigger battles.

Homeworld Fleet Command is based on the video game Homeworld, which originally debuted in 1999 under Sierra Studios and Relic Entertainment. Gearbox bought the rights from THQ in 2013 and released a remaster of the game. Three years ago, Homeworld 3 was announced as a new part of the series being developed by Blackbird Interactive and scheduled for release in 2023.
