This is Johnny, or Jacky - whichever version you follow, it doesn't change the fact that another board game for The Shining is in the making. "The Op" realizes Stanley Kubrick's horror classic as an escape board game with the subtitle "Escape from the Overlook Hotel". The game should appear in autumn, in Germany probably through the usual sales channels, i.e. online shops.

In order to clear up an error that many movie lovers see as a mistake. In the original version, Double Jack hits the phrase “Here is Johnny!” In the 80s classic. out after he has opened the door to the bathroom with the ax - even though the character's real name is Jack Torrence. In the German version, this became the exclamation “Here is Jacky!”, Which is more understandable, but only for the German audience.

In the US, the call “Here's Johnny!” namely a tribute to the late night showman Johnny Carson. Nobody in this country would understand that - probably not anymore in modern America either. And now to the Escape board game about The Shining.

Again: Danny and Wendy on the run

The horror classic from 1980 is celebrating its 40th birthday this year. The US publisher The Op is therefore donating an escape game for fans at home that is based on the strip. The title “The Shining: Escape from the Overlook Hotel” does not reinvent the setting - nor should it. And so it is again Danny and Wendy who flee from the ax-wielding Jack Torrance through the creepy hotel.

The game idea is based on what is known from escape games for the home. In “The Shining: Escape from the Overlook Hotel” you have to solve puzzles, find clues and ultimately find your way out of the hotel. The escape game will also work as a solo game, but it's probably much more fun in a group because solving puzzles is always a highly interactive experience.

The shining is of course also used. Danny can use his ability to find hidden clues. Wendy, on the other hand, should be able to use objects - very pragmatic, but helpful. The escape experience should last around two hours and be comparatively challenging. Escape from Jack Torrance is unlikely to be a walk in the park.

Jay Cormier and Sen-Foong Ling are responsible for the implementation. The game is again based on The Ops “Coded Chronicles” system, with which an escape game for Scooby-Doo was also implemented. “The Shining: Escape from the Overlook Hotel” should appear in the fall at a price of around 30 US dollars.

Incidentally, this concoction is not the first board game for the film: Already at the beginning of the year Prospero Hall announced an adaptationdesigned by the makers of board games like Jaws or Villainous.
