With the new edition of the dungeon crawler classic HeroQuest, Hasbro hit a nerve: So far, many expansions have been released, and now with "Against the Ogre Hordes" an old and popular quest pack is coming onto the market - in a significantly revised form.
With the crowdfunding campaign for the new edition of HeroQuest, Hasbro hit the mark. The father of the dungeon crawler genre has since celebrated a brilliant comeback. Expert players sometimes smile at HeroQuest, perhaps not being able to feel the nostalgic charm of the classic - or at least not understanding its form. Admittedly: The Monster Massacre board game is not particularly complex, but it was groundbreaking at the time and still has many fans today. They are happy when Hasbro - as in the past - regularly brings expansions onto the market.
New Quest and Tournament Mode
It was almost three years ago that HeroQuest appeared on the market in a version that was at least partially updated. In parallel, there were two expansions from the start: "Kellar's Keep" and "Return of the Witch Lord". Many other additional packages followed in the following months: "The Frozen Horror", "The Mage of the Mirror", the much-praised expansion "Rise of the Dread Moon" and "Prophecy of Telor". With the rogue and the monk, new hero classes also found their way into the game.
In the meantime, the basic game of HeroQuest can be greatly enhanced by the additional content, also in terms of gameplay.
Well set Hasbro or its subsidiary brand Avalon Hill has added the cherry on top: with "Against the Ogre Horde" a new expansion is coming onto the market, which is actually an old one. At least: The content has been significantly revised and fans are even treated to something new. The Ogre expansion is ultimately a new edition - like the basic game. The three classic quests are coming in a new version, however, and there will also be a tournament mode with which the makers are building on "Path of the Wandering Monk". The hero set brings two new miniatures (male and female) into the game, whose combat skills are based primarily on elemental-style techniques. Fans can give the monsters a hard time with monk attacks based on water, fire, earth and air. The World's End tournament, which is looking for the best warriors, is also mentioned.
The Ogre expansion does not yet have a specific release date, but the package is due to be released in April for a price of around 40 euros. For fans of the board game, the expansion should be a must-buy, not least because of the new arena mode in the style of a classic duel.
