According to a trademark entry, the classic board game HeroQuest could return to the gaming table under the name "HeroQuest Legacies". The fact that there could be more to the rumor is due, among other things, to the fact that Restoration Games is said to have registered the trademark: The publisher specializes in bringing older board games to the market in a completely renovated form.

Restoration Games is said to have secured the “HeroQuest Legacies” brands at the beginning of the month. This is also an entry* on the US website Justia.com. Legal information is available free of charge on the portal, including registrations of trademark rights. After that, Restoration Games secured the word mark "HeroQuest Legacies" and specified board games, card games and dice games, but also miniatures as areas of use.

HeroQuest: Prototype of the 3D dungeon crawler

HeroQuest is considered the archetype of dungeon crawler board games and was first published in 1989 and was the result of a partnership between Games Workshop and MB-Spiele. Only four years later, in 1993, production was stopped. In the meantime, several extensions have appeared.

To this day, however, fans want a new edition including a modernization of the now somewhat outdated game principle. Restoration Games could now turn this wish into reality: The studio is behind board games such as Unmatched or Downforce and takes care of the reprocessing of older game titles.

A few years ago, a Kickstarter campaign for a HeroQuest revival failed due to copyright disputes with the role-playing game publisher Moon Design, which claimed the license for itself. A few months ago, the publishing house Chaosium also renamed its HeroQuest role-playing game "QuestWorlds", thus giving Restoration Games the opportunity to secure the naming rights.

However, the trademark registration does not currently mean more than a chance. The trademark process is one of the necessary steps, but sometimes takes place purely on the basis of future - sometimes vague - ideas. An answer to our inquiry at Restoration Game is still pending.
