Paradox Interactive today announced that By Blood Alone, the latest expansion to Hearts of Iron IV, Paradox Interactive's grand strategy war game about World War II, is scheduled for release on September 27th.

In By Blood Alone, players will explore new alternate histories in mankind's greatest battle. Featuring three other major national focus trees, this DLC offers a series of enticing what-if stories as the player crafts new trajectories of ideological and military combat. Hearts of Iron IV: By Blood Alone will be available for a suggested retail price of €19,99.

New units and more peace

By Blood Alone focuses on the political and military fortunes of Italy. As always, the historical path is open to anyone who wants to relive the dramatic years before and during the war. Alternatively, players can bring about the end of Mussolini's rule through socialist revolution or a strong monarchy.

Among other things, the focus is on the new Ethiopian focus tree: players will brave the odds and defeat the Italian conqueror or resist the invader using the unique abilities of a government-in-exile. The Swiss focus tree is also new. Surrounded by France, Germany and Italy, the mountain nation of Switzerland finds its strength in its neutrality, balancing between competing factions and offers from the great powers. The players demilitarize individual zones or entire nations through the peace conferences. They bid on the capital ships of defeated powers or claim control of enemy resources or factories as reparations.

In Plane Designer, players design and build their own planes. From agile interceptors that prioritize speed to resilient bombers that drop tons of destruction from great heights. Unit medals provide a record of the performance of the individual departments. This allows players to track their performance and even award medals to those who did particularly well. With the new diplomatic embargo interaction, players can now embargo their enemies, preventing them from trading with them if the opponents have generated enough world tension.

More than 20 new unit models for the Italian, Ethiopian and Swiss armies. There are also 67 new aircraft models. For sound enthusiasts there are also twelve new music tracks.

As usual, this release of By Blood Alone is accompanied by a major free update to Hearts of Iron IV, available to anyone who owns the game. Hearts of Iron IV: By Blood Alone will be available for a suggested retail price of €19,99.
