Fans are waiting for the successor to the Nintendo Switch, but there is no official release date for the successor console yet. According to a new report, the wait for the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 will be shorter than expected. That would be quite a surprise.
Fans have long been discussing when Nintendo will launch a successor to the hybrid consoles. In the absence of official information from the Japanese gaming group, we have to assume that there will be a longer wait. Unless Nintendo foregoes a long lead time for marketing measures and brings the Nintendo Switch 2 onto the market relatively unexpectedly. That seems unlikely, but the head of a gaming peripherals company is now claiming that this is exactly what is going to happen.
Nintendo Switch successor coming in spring?
The Spanish website "Vandal" spoke to Rubén Mercado, CEO of the aforementioned gaming peripheral company "Blade", for a report. In addition to accessories for Playstation, Xbox and PC, the company also offers peripherals for Nintendo Switch - so Mercado seems to be a suitable source and insider. The managing director revealed in the article that the successor console to the Nintendo Switch is "already finished". They already have access to the practically final consoles.
Allegedly, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be released in March or April 2025, i.e. next spring. This claim is at least consistent with other rumors that also targeted March 2025 as the target time frame for the release of a new Nintendo console. However, the time frame has not been officially confirmed.

As Rubén Mercado goes on to explain, Nintendo apparently wants to make the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 dependent on the financial results. If the figures indicate a good financial year, the console will not be released until April - the new financial year. If the figures indicate bad figures, however, the company will bring the successor to market early, i.e. in March. This will then boost sales again in the short term so that the data makes it into the financial report.
The CEO also stressed that the new console will have magnetic Joy-Con controllers attached to the sides. This rumor has also been around before. The analog sticks are also said to be different than before, but there was no more concrete information. Mercado is active publicly on social media and "Blade" is considered a reputable company. There could be something to the claims - in any case, there are no confidentiality agreements, emphasizes Mercado on the "X" platform.
If Nintendo were to launch a new console without much lead time, it would not only be a surprise, but also a bold move. After all, console purchases and their success also depend on the available budget. Early announcements mean that fans can save or block sums of money that would otherwise be used for other purchases - currently perhaps for the Playstation 5 Pro. Even keeping quiet about the approaching Christmas and gift-giving season would be quite unusual in the run-up to a console release. On the other hand, the strong sales of the Nintendo Switch as well as the improved OLED version by owners of the standard model, it has been shown that fans of the Japanese gaming company are quite willing to dig deep into their wallets.
