GTA 6 has really ignited a fire on the internet: fans are eagerly awaiting the release, patiently waiting for a new trailer or new information to be released, and are already looking forward to the moment when the next part of the Grand Theft Auto series will finally start. It will almost certainly be a milestone.
Fans have high hopes for GTA 6: for great entertainment; for a game that will once again surprise with innovative gameplay; for an open world that the developers will feed with content for many years to come. And the chances of a real hit are actually pretty good for Rockstar Games' AAAA gangster game. That the developers will screw it up? Rather unlikely. The first trailer for GTA 6 already makes a great impression. This game should be something. One important reason for the high probability of success is time alone.
GTA 6: The 12-Year Gap
Hardly any other video game series has been able to bridge so many years with high-quality entries as Grand Theft AutoWhen the first GTA was released in 1997 for MS-DOS, PlayStation and later the Game Boy Color, the reviews were good, but by no means outstanding. Even the second part two years later did not offer the great gaming experience that the GTA series stands for today. That was to change in 2001 with the release of Grand Theft Auto 3, the part that gave the entire series its identity in the first place. This was already clear visually, because the logo introduced for the third part of the series still exists today.
In the following twelve years, several offshoots of Grand Theft Auto on the market, but it was only the fifth part that became the extraordinary commercial success that fans predicted for GTA 6. It took Rockstar Games twelve years to turn the gangster game series into an almost perfect product that generated billions in sales.

The gap between the fifth and sixth parts is much bigger than before. Once again, it's been at least twelve years of waiting - and thus twelve years of progress in the video game industry. This time span alone is a major building block for success: technology has made enormous leaps, the demands on gameplay have changed - among fans and developers alike. Narrative methods and the quality of background stories with a variety of storylines have also set new standards that Rockstar Games must now prove itself against. The challenge of delivering a hit is greater than ever before. But this also applies to the opportunities that technological innovations give development studios.
The graphical leap will not be as significant as from 3D to HD, but it is to be expected that Rockstar Games will conjure up a visually stunning game on the screens. The development of GTA 5 into Red Dead Redemption 2 already indicates what the developers can achieve. Ultimately, the only limitation will probably be the hardware, because a game for the masses must also run on the masses' devices, i.e. increasingly on those devices that will already be many years old in 2025 or 2026. Nevertheless, the performance resources have multiplied in the meantime. GTA 5 celebrated its release on the Xbox 360 and PS 3, later upgrades followed for XboX One and PS4, Windows PC and just two years ago the current-gen versions for Xbox Series X|S and Playstation 5.
So GTA 5 was launched on a console generation with 1,8 teraflops. For comparison: rumors say that the PlayStation 5 Pro will have between 18,1 and 36. This alone indicates how many more resources Rockstar Games can make use of. It is quite likely that GTA 6 will be the milestone hoped for, especially graphically.
