Fans of GTA 6 naturally hope for the new entry in the gangster game series to be released as soon as possible. However, Rockstar Games should not make hasty decisions: a delay could be just the thing.
Fans of the GTA series are currently very excited about every little piece of news about GTA 6. And not without reason: There is hardly any relevant information about the game - and the trailer also gave little indication of the gameplay of the new title.
Rockstar Games may have caused a stir with the video, but overall they are keeping a low profile when it comes to news about the GTA 5 successor. This made the recent excitement that the release of GTA 6 might be postponed all the more intense. Rumors were spread, then denied, then heated up again. And ultimately, after the release of Take-Two's division, everything ended up back where it started. It says: GTA 6 will be released in autumn 2025. A postponement of the release would not be a bad thing, especially not for Grand Theft Auto 6.
Rockstar Games remains silent
Among all the participants in the discussion, there is one party that could quickly shed some light on the matter: Rockstar Games. The developers themselves have not yet commented, however, and are keeping quiet. And that is exactly right.
A release delay would not be unlikely anyway if you look at the history of previous Rockstar Games releases. There are often important reasons behind game release delays, and for many publishers and developers, the decision to release a game even if it is faulty is often an equally important option: economic reasons sometimes make release delays impossible. This is precisely what neither Rockstar Games nor Take-Two expect, so the developers hardly have to worry if there are actually changes to the plan.
Even with AAA video games, it is all too common for the release to be premature: as was recently the case with Star Wars Outlaws, Star War Jedi: Survivor or Starfield - all titles from well-known companies that fans have been eagerly awaiting. If the developers do not take the time they need to deliver the best possible quality, the decision usually comes back like a boomerang. Lots of moaning from the scene, bad reviews, a bad image, mixed sales figures - the consequences of premature releases can be harsh.
Fans should be patient
Neither fans nor developers want to take such risks for GTA 6: after all, many fans have been waiting for the successor to GTA 5 for around a decade. The game should definitely receive the necessary fine-tuning, especially since, given the open-world experience, it will be a complex undertaking to bring GTA 6 to market as error-free as possible. Rockstar Games is facing a mammoth task that is getting bigger and bigger the closer the release gets. Instead of taking on the dreaded "crunch", the developers should keep calm and simply take the time they need. In the meantime, GTA Online will continue to run for hardcore fans anyway - and everyone else will thank the team in the end if GTA 6 turns out to be the marvel that was expected. Fans should just be patient.
Rockstar Games could revolutionize the sandbox open-world game genre with a successful new Grand Theft Auto-spin-offs. It's about new technologies, new ideas, innovations, a new direction for a series of games that is always in danger of gathering dust due to its age. Anyone who really dares to try something new ultimately has to test a lot - that takes time. A lot of time. Rockstar Games should not put the quality department under unnecessary pressure, because that usually backfires. Other publishers have had to learn this the hard way. Once the image is ruined...
For Rockstar Games, attention to detail is also important in games. This also requires resources so that the developers can express themselves there.
And: There is no real competition for GTA 6 anyway. While current action-adventure or open-world games have to compete with a multitude of other AAA titles, the games in the GTA series have always been special and on a level of their own. This will also apply to the return to Vice City. Grand Theft Auto 6 will probably have so many unique selling points that it is difficult to pigeonhole the title. For Rockstar Games, the only competition for GTA 6 is its predecessor. It was great and must be surpassed. The developers will do everything they can to achieve this - and should take all the time in the world.
You can already see how the developers are going about their work: The images from the trailer make you want more. With the in-house RAGE graphics engine, which is used for Grand Theft Auto 6, Rockstar Games will conjure up a pretty impressive scene on the screens. One thing is already clear: purely visually, GTA 6 will be a stunner. What the developers offer in terms of gameplay must also reach this high level.
