Instead of an on-site trade fair, Gamescom will be purely digital in the Corona year, but with a strong focus on entertainment. The organizers have now published further details about Gamescom 20202, including those responsible for the content of this year's format. While the participation of Geoff Keighley and the "Gamescom: Opening Night - Live" was already certain, the makers have revealed who will take over the production of the English and German-language content.

Gamescom 27 will take place from August 30th to 2020th - due to the pandemic precautions, however, the fair will be offered as a purely online event this year. While many organizers rely on digital events in the Corona year - for example Friedhelm Merz Verlag with the digital GAME 2020 - Gamescom is a kind of pioneer in the segment. Not least because the makers have been intensifying online offers for years. It is now certain that two well-known players will be participating in Gamescom 2020 with productions: IGN and Webedia Germany.

Gamescom 2020: IGN, Webedia and Geoff Keighley produce

After the collaboration between Geoff Keighley and Gamescom was already established, two more partners, IGN and Webedia Germany, have joined the production of the new online formats. The two actors share the content on a linguistic level: the English-language Gamescom studio will be presented by IGN from August 27th to 30th. An “extensive program” is to be provided daily, including interviews with game developers, exclusive demo shows or impressions of current games from influencers. Webedia Germany will be responsible for the German-language Gamescom content and will present a daily program of analyzes, live interviews, news and more from August 27th to 30th.

This time, however, the organizers have not spread their information on the new show formats as roughly as before. The makers of Gamescom reveal more details about the content that fans can look forward to.

On Friday and Saturday there will be a "Gamescom: Daily Show" produced by IGN and Webedia respectively. On both days, the highlights of the day will be presented and talks and interviews will be presented. Michael Swaim, known from TV series among other things, will moderate the event in English. It is not yet known who will moderate the German Gamescom studio.

There will also be a "Best of" show and an "Awesome Indies" format, both produced by IGN. On Saturday, the focus will be on selected indie titles, including interviews and talks with influencers. There are also competitions, trend panels and news on developments in the games scene. The show on Sunday marks the end of the digital Gamescom 2020: Then the highlights of the entire Gamescom will be presented. In addition, the cosplay competition will take place as a grand finale, and the Gamescom Award will also be presented.

René Heuser, Director Gaming at Webedia Germany, is optimistic about the format: "2020 presents us all with enormous challenges. We are therefore proud and grateful to be able to implement the German-language show and live production for this year's Gamescom together with Koelnmesse, the game association and their partners.

The show's content is not created in the Cologne exhibition center, but distributed over several locations in the USA and Germany, explain the organizers. All “official partners” of the Gamescom have the opportunity to be part of the shows. With exclusive content, this will be possible through editorial channels or, alternatively, by booking advertising time, which should be available for every show.

Fans can experience the show via the Gamescom content hub, including via, but also via other channels such as Youtube, Twitch or Facebook.
